Harvest Festival

Today the Year One children sorted all of the food ready to send off to the food bank. They worked in teams of 6 to sort the items into the correct carriers. The children wanted to know who was going to get the food so we spoke with the children about people in need around Coventry and how we can help them.

Mrs Quinn and Mrs Langford, our chair of governors, came in to see all our hard work and were very impressed with how we had chosen to group the different donations.

Year One’s Extraordinary Month of Mission

Year one have been thinking over the past week about their special mission this month. This October the Catholic Church around the world will observe an Extraordinary Month of Mission. The EMM is an initiative of Pope Francis. Its aim is to encourage all members of our Catholic community to recognise themselves as missionary disciples, working and praying together to share Godā€™s love with everyone, everywhere. We decided that as a class we wished to complete a special service together to give back to our local community.

The children have said special prayers for those without homes and wanted to ā€œmake the homeless people warmā€. To achieve this they have said they would like to give hats, gloves, scarves, warm socks, blankets etc. to the homeless people in Coventry. We would be very grateful for any donations to help the children achieve this and are in contact with a local homeless shelter so we can drop them off. We are looking to do this the first week of November so if donations could be brought in before this they would be gratefully received.

Grateful and Generous

WOW! This term we have been trying to be Grateful and Generous following in the footsteps of Jesus. We have been doing such a great job our entire tree is nearly full of golden leaves! Well done All Souls’. Let’s continue walking in the footsteps of Jesus.

The first few weeks in Year One

Life in Year One

We realise we have been very quiet the past few weeks but as the children are now settled we thought we would update you on our time so far. We couldn’t place everything we have done on here so decided we would put together a video of the children’s ‘best bits’ so you could see a few of the wonderful things we have been up to.

Year One Trip (19.09.18)

Year One will be going on a trip on Thursday (19th September) and so we are looking for any parents who are able to come with us and would like to attend. It will be for the whole day from 9.30am until 2.45pm. If you are interested please let us know by just popping into the Year One classroom at the end of the school day.

A brilliant few days for the All Souls Netball Team

Following a brilliant 5-4 win against Saint Patrick’s in the city Cup yesterday, the netball team attended the Catholic Netball Rally. After a rocky start, they pulled it back and did not lose a single game. They were gracious winners and showed not only their sporting ability but their modest approach to winning. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the semi finals by 1 goal but the children did both themselves and our school proud.

An afternoon of science

This afternoon we identified and labelled the different parts of a flower. The children worked very well and so looked at trees too to find out what the differences and similarities are.

We spoke about the importance of these parts and what there main function is.

We also moved our caterpillars into their new home. They were ready for a bigger space and will hopefully spread their wings in the next few days.

It has been a week of new beginnings.

We have become budding authors and wrote our traditional tales. The children worked incredibly hard and are looking forward to publishing these next week.

We began our new topic in maths of fractions starting by finding a half of a shape. We will have this as our focus over the next few weeks moving on to find quarters.

In science we have started our seasonal unit of Spring and Summer. We launched this by going on a season walk around the school environment and in our local area to find signs that spring has sprung.

Our caterpillars continued to grow with 1 making their way to the top ready to make its cocoon. We are very excited to see what is going to happen next week.

A brilliant first back after Easter. It was lovely to hear about all of the adventures the children experienced.

We arrived on Monday to a special delivery of baby caterpillars. The children were so excited and have enjoyed watching them grow already. We can’t wait to watch them as they turn into butterflies.

We began planning our own traditional tale in English and thought of some brilliant ideas for our setting and characters. Three goats and the big bad wolf will be published soon ask us about our story.

In maths we continued to look at sharing and multiplication to practise our skills from before Easter. We have now started to work on money and identifying different coins as well as notes.

We will now start to have two phonics sessions a day, as discussed during the parents evening meetings, to fill any gaps and provide intervention needed.
