We all turned up in our bright clothes to support Harvest Day for CAFOD. The children all looked lovely, bright and cheerful to celebrate this important festival. In class we spoke about the importance of harvest and food for different people around the world. We were then treated to a lovely assembly from Mrs McGovern which taught us all about the real people CAFOD help.

As part of our rocks topic in science we went out to create soil profiles to show the different layers of soil beneath us. We first learnt about the different layers, then in pairs the children created their own. Some children got messier than others, but they had lots of fun.
The best way to a child’s brain is clearly through their tummy. We are learning about rocks and how the three main types of rocks are formed.
We had different types of chocolate (dark, milk and white) that we had to layer, squash and melt to form the three different types of rock. Of course the best part was being able to eat it š
We finished off our unit of sentence work in Literacy last week, moving on now to look at instructional writing. The children used their acting skills to act out different verbs using the rules of charades. Some of the children played it safe, others showed their truly dramatic side!

Last week we came to the end of our first unit of maths this year. We concluded our unit by playing a place value game, the children were incredible and showed off all of their amazing knowledge of place value.
Well done Year Three! Let’s hope our next unit is just as successful.

Year 3 Summer Sleepover ā 13.07.2017
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As an end of year treat for the Year Three class we are holding a summer sleepover here at school on Thursday 13th July 2017. The children will come to school as normal on the Thursday and have an ordinary day of lessons. Then once all the other children have left there will be an evening of fun and relaxation. We will play games outside, make different crafts and watch a film in the evening. Dinner will be provided in the form of homemade pizzas (which we will make together) and there will be snacks and drinks available throughout the evening. There will also be different cereals available in the morning before school.
You are welcome to come and see the children first thing on the Friday morning if you wish, to drop off a packed lunch or just to say hello to them. They will then be in school for the rest of the day on Friday before going home as normal at 3.15pm on the Friday afternoon. It will be their first experience of a school residential trip and be a wonderful way to finish our year together, as well as preparing them for longer trips such as Alton Castle (Year Five) and Dol-Y-Moch (Year Six).
There is no cost for this night and refreshments will be provided. We do ask that they bring a change of clothes for the evening activities, pillow, a sleeping bag, toiletries (toothbrush and toothpaste), any night time cuddly things or blankets and pyjamas to sleep in. All we need is your consent below to allow them to stay.

The children had a wonderful day at Dudley Zoo today, they got to meet different animals from the Rainforest face to face and learn all about why these animals live on the different layers of the Rainforest.
We then took off to explore the different animals, got up close and personal with lemurs, some of us took inspiration from them and scaled the climbing areas.
We got back safe and sound, some of us sleepy from all the monkeying around.
A huge well done to the children for their wonderful rainforest assembly. They all learnt their lines so well and despite a few last minute nerves, performed beautifully.
Thank you to all of the parents, families and friends that came along. It was great to see you all and the children were delighted with their audience.
To follow the rainforest theme, letters have been sent out for the trip to Dudley zoo for the rainforest workshops and exploration of the zoo on Friday 7th July. Payment through Sims agora please. Many thanks!!
Well the year 2 children (soon to be year 3) experienced their first transition afternoon. The children were very excited, and got to know some of the new things about the move to KS2. We became superheros and discussed our superpowers, weaknesses and how we can change the world!
We then created unique fingerprint butterflies ready for our classroom in September, to show our own individuality and freedom to learn in the classroom. A great start!
The children experienced a day learning all about bees, pollination and trees for their first day back. The children learnt all about how pollination works, the hard job bees have as well as now knowing how to determine the age of trees. They behaved wonderfully and shone with all of their plant knowledge; very proud of them and their attitude to learning!
