What a jampacked week!

By Miss R Corkerry26th January 2018

Another week of madness in year three!

The children began the week learning all about water and the importance of saving it and not being wasteful. We changed our topic in maths just temporarily to get us into the rhythm again and achieved so much that some of the children never thought they’d be able to do like reading an analogue clock!

We then became All Souls’ Estate Agency as we attempted to use persuasion to sell Joe Spud’s house from our class book the Billionaire Boy. The children used lots of the techniques and even presented their houses to us to show their hard work.

We also had a lovely art lesson creating scnenes that showed Jesus’ presence. I think it’s fair to say the children enjoyed the clean up just as much as the lesson itself.

Yesterday we spent the afternoon in the hunt for answers as we took part in a Roman scavenger hunt around the school, following clues to discover items that the Romans made and brought to Britain during their rule.

The children will come home with their lines for the assembly. Please make sure these are practised as it is only 2 weeks away.

Have a lovely weekend!

Settling back in

By Miss R Corkerry19th January 2018

First of all a quick but heartfelt Thank you for the beautiful cards and gifts over Christmas they were very much appreciated. Wishing you all a happy new year and hoping that 2018 brings many wonderful things.

The first week back was jam-packed and quick paced start to the year which the children dealt exceptionally well with. We launched the new behaviour policy and then children are very quickly adjusting to this.
We spent the first week recaping our last term, setting targets together for this term and introducing new learning.

We made our Roman bread which I hear went down a great at home and we evaluated our plans as some designs proved a little to hard in reality. Here are a few pictures to show the hard work the children had to put it.

This week has been another busy week with our new topic in maths of measure beginning, our new class text ‘Billionaire Boy’ and our new science topic Animals including humans! For more information about what we will be up to this term please read the Year Three newsletter that will be sent home today with your child.

To finish the week we had UNICEF come in to deliver a workshop about balanced diets and malnutrition. The children worked very well with the volunteers and asked lots of questions as well as getting involved in the discussions.

Lots of very exciting things going on this term so please keep updated through the class newsletter, the school newsletter and messages in our class blog.

The next sacramental preparation lesson is on Sunday 4th February 2018 at 9am in the Parish Room.

Thanks you for your ongoing cooperation

A beautiful end to a hectic week

By Miss R Corkerry15th December 2017

The children in Year Three had some visitors today. Children from Year 1 came to join us in a prayer service where we split in half between the classes. We focused on peace, finding peace in our hearts, our school and our world. Year 3 were super role models for the year 1 children and they all behaved beautifully!

We have had another very busy week. We know the children are getting tired and we are very proud of how they are still putting their all into our class activities. Hopefully this continued next week. Only four days left!

A reminder about next week in Monday we have our trip to the Herbert Art Gallery. Children must bring a packed lunch with them as we will be there all day. On Thursday we are having a pyjama day with Christmas activities in the morning and a film in the afternoon. Me and Miss Fox will provide crisps and hot chocolate as our Christmas present to the children.

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly Roundup

By Miss R Corkerry8th December 2017

Another busy week in year three. Aden was crowned Kung Fu Punctuation champion and remains unbeaten. The children showed off what they could do in various assessments and we started our new topic in maths of angles within different shapes.

The week concluded with some snowfall and 30 very excited children became over 100 excited children when break time came!

The year three children have their sacramental preparation meeting on Sunday based on the New Testament. Can you make sure they are attending please as it will be the last one until the New Year.

Thank you

Wow! What a week!

By Miss R Corkerry8th December 2017

Wow what an exciting week in year three. We had a great time focusing on Kung Fu Punctuation learning new pieces and becoming masters of punctuation. We had them pleasure of having a visit from Mrs Fix who worked with us to create a beautiful advent wreath and introduced this new season. We also out up our class Christmas tree and decorated it with baubles and people we are keeping in our hearts this Christmas.

Letters sent out about our trip to the Herbert Art Gallery. Can the payment and confirmation be made through SIMS Agora please.

Beauty and the Beast Cinema Trip

By Miss R Corkerry22nd November 2017

Our first trip as a Year Three class was fantastic! The behaviour was amazing and they were a credit to the school and their parents.
Although some jumpy bits even startled the adults the film experience was a success and the children thoroughly enjoyed it. The excitement was too much for some, and the beast obviously wasn’t that frightening, as we had some sleepy heads by the end.

Our Weekly Roundup!

By Miss R Corkerry20th November 2017

Another busy week in Year Three!

We looked at sharing in maths and learnt how to share equally between 2, 3 and 4. Some us us began a little apprehensive but we all got there in the end.
We continued to work on our pencil grip by completing more fun (and a little messy) activities to focus on strengthening our fine motor skills.
We also created role plays based on traditional tales to help our recall skills and ability to recreate known stories.

We had a wonderful day on Friday celebrating Children In Need, supporting children that need our help but more importantly need our prayers. We all became spotacular for Pudsey and shared a teddy bears picnic in our house groups. Jerusalem were very well behaved and remembered their manners whilst we relaxed watching The Jungle Book.

Thank you for your kind donations of food for our sharing table!

Our weekly roundup!

By Miss R Corkerry10th November 2017

WOW! What a week! We have been so busy we cannot believe another week has gone by.
We began the week working on our handwriting using playdough and playing pommpom games. We started a new topic in maths and learnt all about our new class book in English. Near the end of the week we have had so much fun! We learnt about rememberance day and created poppy art to show our respect to the fallen soldiers. We then took part in a fencing workshop where some of us had some very impressive moves!

To finish our week we took part in a science day focusing on the life and inventions of Nikola Tesla. We learnt about how he has changed our world as we know it and how we can still see his inventions in our daily life. We then took inspiration from the Tesla Coil and created electric storms with paint. We also had a fantastic visit from magnificent minibeasts which we got to hold and learn fun facts about.

Have a wonderful weekend year three!!

A very strange occurrence

By Miss R Corkerry16th October 2017

The children have been making comments all day about how strange the sun looks and the weather is. At break time the sun was bright orange amongst the grey clouds. This afternoon, following a notice about the sun, we took a walk outside to see what had happened.

The children looked and looked to try and find the sun. Eventually it peeked out from behind a cloud and it was bright red. The children were very excited and asked lots of questions arise as to why this has happened. A very interesting and unusual Monday at school.
