Liturgy of the Word Roleplays

Today the children were focusing on sequencing and understanding the liturgy if the word and how important it is to listen to God’s word at mass. The children took turns to read different parts of this, and roleplayed what it is like to be a reader at mass. A roleplay that will soon be reality for some children based on how fantastic they were!

Today we looked at being respectful online and how sometimes when we write something it can be easily misunderstood. We edited an email and thiught about the different ways this could be interpreted by who is reading it. We discussed how once we said something it is out there and cannot be taken back, when we use email there is always a trace of this.

E-Safety third session

Today’s session was all about buying things and the pull of company advertising to make us think we need things that actually we probably don’t. We had a look on different websites aimed at children their age that are there for the purpose of getting children’s attention and making them feel like they need the different products. We also looked at some of the tricks and techniques they use to make deals seems like good ones and finally had a go at making some of their own persuasive advertisements.

Today year three learnt all about their online communities and the people they connect with online through the internet, apps and game consoles. We learnt all about the benefits of having these connections but also ways to keep ourselves safe. Discussing what to do if someone we don’t know tries to contact us. We looked at all the great things we can do with the internet as well and how we can use this online community to our own benefit.

Next week is Internet Safety Week and the children will have the chance to enter a competition, ask them what they have been asked to do, you may even be able to give them some winning ideas!

Year Three visit the Herbert Art Gallery

Today the children in year three visited the Herbert Art Gallery to explore and learn more about sculptures, how they are made and the different types. The children also got the chance to make their very own sculptures out of clay. The children had a fantastic day and showed some super skills at making sculptures, we may have some budding Donatellos on our hands in the not so distant future. Thank you all for your support in allowing the children to go, they really gained lots from it. Please ask them all about their morning, I’m sure they would love to tell you what they got up to šŸ™‚

E-Safety (Safe passwords)

Year three have started their sessions in E-Safety, learning how to keep ourselves protected whilst using technology. Today’s focus was in making Safe passwords and understanding why we need our passwords to be safe. The questionnaire was an eye opener for the children when a lot of them found that their passwords were not safe. We made safer combination passwords and then out them to the test in a game.
We hope that the children will make these changes to stay safe online and that parents at home will support them with this.

A visit from UNICEF

Today the children had a visit from UNICEF to teach them all about nutrition and eating right. We learnt about the things we need to put in our bodies and those things we should avoid. The children got to see and understand that some people are not lucky enough to have the food that we have and what happens to us if we do not get the right food and nutrition. The children all really enjoyed it and learnt lots of new things. Thank you UNICEF

The Shepherd’s and The angels

We had a great time today completing role play and freeze frame moments whilst telling the story of the Shepherd’s and the angels. We worked in groups of 3 to take on various roles of characters within the story and had some budding actors among us.

Christmas is coming

Year Three had a very chilled end to a super busy term, snuggled with their blankets, snacks and marshmellow-topped hot chocolate watching The Polar Express. They have had an absolutely fantastic term full of hard work but loads of success along the way. I wish you all the very best Christmas and the happiest of New Year! Stay safe, get some rest and I look forward to seeing you all fresh faced in 2017! Xx
