Hello Everyone,

We hope you all had a good Easter break. This half term we will be doing work on planting and growing. We have started off our topic by reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and so naturally we have planted bean seeds which we will be watching very closely. Other plants we will be planting are potatoes, tomatoes and sunflower seeds. If anyone would like to donate any seeds or bedding plants we could plant, any donations would be very welcome. A date for your diary: on Wednesday 22nd June at 9.15 Nursery are dong a combined school assembly with Reception class which you are very welcome to come along to. Enjoy the long Bank Holiday weekend!

We have come to the end of another term! This week we have been making chicks and decorating Easter eggs and we have finished off today with making chocolate nests and having an Easter egg hunt which the children were very excited about. Have a great Easter break!

What a beautiful week we have had which means the children have really enjoyed learning outside – lets hope the fine weather continues. On Tuesday the children used the large apparatus in their P.E lesson and Jade and Marie were very impressed with how the children used the apparatus, listened and followed instructions. The children also made Mother’s Day cards and they have done some wonderful writing inside. For the next couple of weeks we will be doing activities related to Easter, Spring and animal related activities. If you haven’t already done so could you please  return the Father Hudson charity boxes before the end of term. Have a lovely weekend.

Our visit to Ash End Farm on Tuesday was fantastic and the children had a brilliant time. The Play Barn was a roaring success – I never new we had such fearless children whizzing down the enormous slides! Our visit around the farm was good fun as well as being informative; we fed the goats, handled baby lambs and chicks, met the one day old foal, had an egg hunt, had a falcon display as well as meeting a varity of other farm animals. What a wet and blustery week it’s been! Let’s hope the weather improves next week for our trip to Ash End Farm and also to start using our outside area again. Our focus this week has been ‘The Three Billy Goat’s Gruff. The children have painted some very scary trolls and have built some amazing bridges for the goats to cross over. The children also loved our science experiment yesterday  – the Billy Goat’s bridge had fallen down so the goats had to travel over the water in a boat but the children had to come up with ways to move the boat but without touching it.This week the children made purple foot prints for Lent and they thought about things they could do to be more like Jesus. Don’t forget to send the children in with their wellies on Tuesday for our trip. Have a good weekend.

We had all kinds of story book characters coming into Nursery on Thursday – the children looked amazing and it was lovely to share their favourite books with everyone. The children have also done some wonderful pictures of farm animals and they have loved the challenge of building bridges to balance animals on using lolly sticks and cups. In our construction area this week the challenge has been to build enclosures for the animals and we have also started a ‘Builder of the Week’ whose photo will go up on the board.

Next week we will be introducing the letter sounds p, n, c/k and e and also focussing on rhyming stories. Our main story focus will be the ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ with activities related to this theme. Have a good weekend  and lets hope the weather doesn’t turn too cold.

Welcome back after the half term break. This week we have started our theme on farm animals in preparation for our visit to Ash End Farm on 19th March. Our book focus this week has been ‘Farmer Duck’ and ‘Titus’s Troublesome Tooth’ which the children have loved. The construction area  is back in action and over the next couple of weeks our building challenge is to build enclosures and houses for the farm animals, farmer and tractors. The children have been very enthusiastic about learning the letter sounds s,a,t,i  this week, so the children could go on a sound hunt at home and find objects beginning with these sounds to bring into Nursery. It was so lovely to see you all at Parent’s Evening and share your child’s progress with you.This week and last, we have been celebrating Chinese New Year by role playing in our Chinese Restaurant, eating Chinese food, making dragons. pig masks and cards. We are  really lucky this year to be working with Jade and Marie from The Elite Dance Academy. The children have loved working with them and this week the children performed their dance they have been practicing this term – they were fantastic as I’m sure you will agree if you watch the video at the end of this blog. Tomorrow (Friday) is non-school uniform day so it would be great if the children could come to Nursery wearing brightly coloured clothes with a donation of £1 for the school building fund. Have a good half term everyone and we will see you back at Nursery on Tuesday 26th February.

Hello Everyone,

There was great excitement this week with the arrival of snow! As well as taking the opportunity to explore in the snow we also carried out an experiment to find out where snow would stay frozen and where it would melt – the children suggested the fridge and outside to keep it frozen, and the radiator and inside to melt the snow. We will carry out more experiments with ice next week as this has been a great way to generate discussions and ideas with the children. Today we started making bird feeders for our gardens and talking about why birds find it difficult to find food in the Winter. Our focus in stories this week has been talking about characters – next week we will be focussing on story settings and also acting out familiar stories. Have a great weekend!
