Flower Power

This week in Nursery we have been lookingt at and naming the different parts of a flower. We have also enjoyed making and painting them so we can make a flower gallery in Nursery. Today we have planted tomato plants and we have started to plant sunflower seeds which we are very excited about caring for and watching them grow. In the next couple of weeks we are aiming to plant carrots, corgettes and sweetcorn. Our beautiful Spring flowers that we grew have now died back and we would like to plant flowers for the Summer, so any donations of bedding plants for our Nursery pots would be very welcome!

 

 

Nursery Celebrate St. Bernadette

Our class saint is St.Bernadette, whose feast day was in the Easter holiday on 16th April. Nursery have learnt about the story of St. Bernadette and why she is our special saint. The children enjoyed making roses for our St.Bernadette display and we had a party to celebrate which was great fun. We also have some special guests in Nursery who we are going to look after, watch grow, change and transform into beautiful butterflies, which the children are very excited about.

Making New Friends

Six of our Nursery children went over to the Dementia Group at All Souls’ Church, this morning. It was so lovely to see our children and the group members interacting with each other. We had fun doing art activities and jigsaws and look forward to seeing our new friends again next month.

Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken! Our Nursery week.

We had a fun packed morning today. The children had great fun sharing Easter activities with Reception class, decorating biscuits, making chicks and decorating eggs amongst other things. The Easter bunny also payed us a visit this morning and left us eggs to find in our outdoor area. The children had great fun on the bouncy castle and to round off the morning we all had an ice-cream from the ice-cream van. Earlier on in the week we made beautiful Easter cards and chocolate nests with chicks on top. A VERY HAPPY EASTER to you all from Nursery!

Our Nursery Week

We have loved spending lots of time outside in the sunshine this week. The children have been so excited about seeing the bulbs we planted in the Autumn term, grow into beautiful Spring flowers – they really cheer up our outdoor area. Our climbing frame is back up and we have been making use of the big playground to use our bikes and other Nursery equipment. I hope our mums like their Mother’s Day cards and hope you can see the resemblance in the picture your child drew of you – we thought they were great! Enjoy the marshmallows the children made for you – the children had good fun making them. Finally, a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to you all from Nursery!

Science Week in Nursery Part 2

As well as celebrating St.Patrick’s Day on Thursday by dressing up in green and making shamrock badges we continued to enjoy our science experiments. On Wednesday we made seed bombs but had to wait until Friday for them to dry out so we could go and throw them on the field on Friday – we are looking forward to wild flowers growing to attract birds, bees and butterflies.

Growing Gummy Bears and Dancing Raisins!

We have been very excited about Science Week in Nursery. The children have loved doing our experiments. So far this week we have made a Gummy Bear grow bigger and made raisins dance! These experiments have been a great way to get the children to predict what will happen, ask and answer questions and to explain what happened and why. Ask our budding Nursery scientists about our experiments! We had a great array of scientists and doctors in nursery today, including a physician, a vet, a NASA scientist, the professor who invented Flubber and none other than Sir David Attenborough!

A busy week in Nursery

We have been busy bees in Nursery this week. As well as role playing Baby Peter’s Baptism we have been doing lots of activities about heavy/light objects, comparing the weight of objects and using the balancing scales. Today Myself and Mrs McCloskey took all of your generous donations of childrens clothes and toys to GrowKids in Foleshill  -they said a BIG THANK YOU and were very appreciative of all of the things that the children brought in.

I name you…….

There was great excitement in Nursery this morning. The children came dressed in their best party clothes to celebrate Baby Peter’s baptism. Father Paul very kindly role played a baptism for us with Rose and Flynn as the parents, Erin and Harrison as God parents and Bertie as assistant priest. We of course also had to celebrate with a party!

And Repeat!

This week in Nursery we have been making lots of repeating patterns using different materials such as pasta shapes, coloured lolly sticks and beads. The trickiest bit was spotting mistakes in repeating patterns – we really had to concentrate and use our eyes carefully! The children have really enjoyed learning and performing our rhyme of the week ‘Down at the Station’ which was a little trickier than usual – we are looking forward to next Friday’s Nursery Rhyme X Factor with anticipation.
