We had a very creative morning in Nursery making Lenten crafts and it was lovely to see mums, dads and grandparents come and join in with the fun.
We have set up a vets in our role play area and the children have loved taking turns being the vet, surgeon, receptionist, veterinary nurse and customers. A small group of children visited The Dementia Group this week to chat and do jigsaws – the children were amazing with the group members. Today we read Mr Wolf’s Pancakes which is very funny. We also made pancakes but unfortunately when it came to cooking them we weren’t as successful as Mr Wolf. Just like Mr Wolf though, we are not going to give up and we shall have another attempt after half term. Happy half term everyone!
This week we have enjoyed reading the story ‘Who Sank the Boat?’ by Pamela Allen. The children have had great fun in the water tray trying to find out how many animals they could place in a boat before it sank – the most anyone balanced was three and even balancing one animal in a boat was tricky enough – great control and skill were needed.
In Nursery this week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year. The children have enjoyed listening to the story of how each Chinese New Year is named after a different animal and then acting it out with the small world animals. We have had great fun trying to pick up noodles with chopsticks and we have made some colourful dragons.
This morning a small group of Nursery children went over to the Dementia Group at All Souls’ Church. The interaction between the children and group members was lovely to see and we are so proud of how the children chatted and helped to do jigsaws. The children brought such joy to the group members and it was great to see our children so comfortable with them. We are looking forward to visiting the group each month with a small group of children from Nursery.
The chidren were super excited today when Una’s mum and dad who are paramedics, brought their ambulance to school today. This is because this half term as part of our Understanding the World theme we are learning about the different jobs that people do, and in R.E we are thinking about people who care for us and love us. Nursery had great fun exploring the ambulance, having their heart rate monitored and most exciting of all – sounding the horn and setting off the siren, which was very loud! This was such a great hands on experience for the children and they learnt so much about the ambulance and being a paramedic. A big, big thank you to Una’s mum and dad!
The children have been busy bees in Nursery and we really got our brains whirring away this morning for the school’s Maths Puzzle Day. We completed lots of jigsaw puzzles, we had to work out how to continue repeating patterns, we built boxes with magnetic shapes big enough to hold a soft toy inside and did lots of construction with building bricks. The children demonstrated great perseverance and problem solving.
We have been talking about the wonderful world that God created for us and the children have painted self portraits to show that God made us all different and all beautiful – the children have loved showing each other their paintings and we are going to make a lovely display of them in our cloak room area. The children have also really enjoyed looking at photographs of when they were babies and toddlers and talking about how we have grown and changed. The children have been making play dough faces using natural materials and also using conkers, acorns and feathers etc to make repeating patterns. We have also been painting beautiful Autumn trees using brown, red, orange, yellow and gold.

The children looked very colourful today, dressed up for the CAFOD harvest appeal. Thank you so much for all your kind donations. We have also been busy today planting some of our Spring bulbs and we will wait in anticipation for them to grow and bloom. To help the children recognise their own name the children have to place their picture and name on the Registration Tree before entering Nursery each morning. Ben and Hoola Hoop, the school guinea pigs are paying us a visit in Nursery this week, which the children have been very excited about. In R.E, we have been learning about The Creation Story and we have our wellies ready and waiting for our Creation walk around the school next week – lets hope the rain stays away!
