Welcome back

By Mrs S JILKS26th February 2017

Welcome back. We hope that you had  relaxing break.   This half term we will be looking at colour, growth and change and positional language.

We have a new role play area that is an Ice cream parlour and would be grateful of any empty ice cream cartons or ice lollipop boxes.   We would also welcome any donations of coats that your child has outgrown for our outdoor play.

This Thursday is World Book day and we will be taking part in the activities in the school.  These include dressing up as our favourite book character, decorating a potato as a book character for a competition and bringing in a book to swop.

Please can you make sure you return the slip for parents evening next week.

Thank you Nursery Staff

Reminders!

By Mrs S JILKS15th February 2017

Please look at the school newsletter and complete the slip at the bottom for your child’s parent evening.  Times will be allocated, as requested, to those parents who return the slip and completed by staff for the other children.

Nursery will be taking part in World Book Day with the rest of the school.  Children will dress up as a character from a book for a £1 donation.  They are invited to take part in a design a potato as a book character competition and to bring in a book they no longer want to read to swop with a friend. We hope to inspire a love of reading in the children.

Thank you

Shape, Occupations and Baptism

By Mrs S JILKS4th February 2017

This week we will be exploring shapes,  We will be recapping the four common shapes and their properties and using shapes to make pictures and models.

We are continuing our topic of Occupations with a visit from Mrs Quinn and Mr Cooke.  They will be telling us what they do in their job roles. Hopefuly your child will come home and let you know all that they do!

We will be talking more about the scarament of Baptism.  Thank you to the parents who have sent in a picture for our display, if you haven’t yet sent in a photograph we will still gladly accept one.

Just a reminder that a copy of all our newsletters and any trip letters, can be found on the website, under Nursery.

Below are a few photographs of the things we learnt  about last week.  We were matching numeral to quantity and building a dwelling for the dolls.DSCN4605 DSCN4606 DSCN4610 DSCN4559 DSCN4566 DSCN4565 DSCN4573 DSCN4563

Visit to All Souls Church

By Mrs S JILKS1st February 2017
DSCN4527

Today Nursery walked to the Church to visit and find out about Baptism. We talked about belonging to the family of God and how the Church is God’s special place. The children were shown the font and the alter, where the sacrament of Baptism takes place. The children were very well behaved and enjoyed the walk dispite the rain. Thank you to all our helpers , without you the children would not be able to have this experience.

Baptism

By Mrs S JILKS29th January 2017

Next week we will be visiting the Church to look at where we are baptised.  We are talking about where we were baptised  and who are our Godparents.  Please could you send in a photograph of your child’s baptism so that we can talk about it with them and add it to our wall display.  Thank you.

In mathematics we will matching numerals to quantity and in literacy we will be focusing on where we can find information in print.

This week we have been exploring shape, finding out about Chinese New Year  and working on our fine motor skills.  Below are a few photographs of the week.

Independent pupils

By Mrs S JILKS20th January 2017

Another very busy week.  The children have settled back well.  We have been working on making independent choices and encouraging children to try activities for themselves and problem solve.  They were encouraged to choose the equipment and resources they needed for an activity and to ask friends for support if needed.

We had some good problem solving going on during the junk modelling session.  The children were able to think about how they joined their models and what they needed to make them.  Children were finding equipment they wanted to extend they play, understanding that they could use equipment in the drawers if they needed it.

We have been continuing our listening and attention activities, with the children looking closely at their eye colours and talking about how they are the same or different to their friends.

Below are some photographs of the week.DSCN4342 DSCN4346 DSCN4348 DSCN4355 DSCN4357 DSCN4339 DSCN4340

Speaking and listening.

By Mrs S JILKS15th January 2017

Welcome back.  The children have been busy sharing Christmas news.  They bought in a favourite toy to talk about and then completed an observational drawing of the toy.  We had some excellent drawings and some of the children were very confident to share news in front of the others.  We are encouraging children to speak in front of a group and answer questions in a sentence.

We have been practising our gross motor skills, kicking a football in the outdoor area.  We have some promising footballers for the school team in future years.

In mathematics we have been exploring what happens when you take something away from a larger group.  The children realised that this means you have less when we counted out biscuits for each of the children at the tables during snack time and Mrs McCloskey took one off each table, because she was hungry!  When they went to take a biscuits one person did not have one and they were able to say why this happened (and Mrs McCloskey put them back).

We also made use of the weather to go outdoors and see what patterns our footprints made.

Next week we will be counting and practising writing our names.DSCN4331 DSCN4280 DSCN4286  DSCN4292 DSCN4321 DSCN4320 DSCN4299

A big ‘Thank You’

By Mrs S JILKS4th January 2017

Thank you all for your lovely cards and gifts, they were very much appreciated.  It’s been a lovely break and hope that you have enjoyed time with your families.  I had an extra celebration on the 28th December, when my son got married, so it’s been a special time for me.

We are going to be talking about how we celebrated Christmas and would like the children to bring in one of their new toys to show and talk about.   In mathematics we are going to be finding out how quantities change when something is taken away from a group.   In Litracy we will be joining in with refrains and familiar phrases.

We are looking forward to seeing the children again on Monday 9th January and an exciting term ahead.

This week we have been practising writing numbers and also counting. Some of us have been using the white boards to practise where to start when writing our numbers.

We got into a bit of mess making calendars but it was fun!

We also wrote letters to Father Christmas and we hope that we will get a reply this week.   Please come along to our Christmas Nativity plays on Thursday 15th at 1.30 and Friday 16th at 9.15 am.  We are sure you will enjoy it, we have been practising lots and think we sound great.
