Exciting times and Christmas Nativity dates

By Mrs S JILKS11th December 2016
DSCN4092

We have been very lucky this week. Mrs Cannon came down to Nursery to tell us she had received some special visitors. The elves came to bring us a reply to our letters to Father Christmas. We were very excited.

DSCN4093 DSCN4105 DSCN4107 DSCN4108

We found out about the seasons of the year and used our knowledge to make a calendar.  We have also painted our Christmas cards and made some Christmas decorations.

We have been practising our Christmas Nativity and hope you will be able to come along to one of our performances.  They are 1.30 pm on Thursday 15th and 9.15am Friday 16th.

One more, One less

By Mrs S JILKS5th December 2016

We have been very busy in Reception this week.  The children have been exploring one more and one less.  We used frogs and lily pads and ladders to help us understand if we added or took one away.  DSCN3982DSCN3987DSCN3980The children understood one more very well and some are also getting good at one less.  Well done all for working hard.

We are practising writing our names, we copy our names every morning and have worked with an adult so that our letters all start from the correct place.  We have also started to make our Christmas cards and calendars.

In RE we have been making promises for Advent.  We wrote our names on a candle.  Some of these are in the photographs below.    DSCN4029DSCN4015DSCN4034DSCN4021DSCN4017Next week we are going to practise writing numbers and find out more about Advent and the Christmas story.

Advent

By Mrs S JILKS4th December 2016

We have been learning about Advent and why we have the candles and wreath.  The children have learnt an Advent song to help them remember who we are waiting for.

We are looking at how Christmas is celebrated around the world and have made a gingerbread house after we found out that this is a traditional Christmas activity in Germany. Next week we are going to make a gingerbread man Christmas tree ornament.

We have also been continuing to practise our fine motor skills.

Busy times ahead!

By Mrs S JILKS27th November 2016

Over the next few weeks we will be concentrating on learning the songs for our Christmas Nativity.  We are working hard with reception, putting together a performance you will remember (hopefully for the right reasons).’

We are starting to make Christmas cards, calendars, gifts and decorations.  During these weeks there may not be as much in our learning journey’s as normal but this certainly doesn’t mean we are not busy.  Some of the things we are doing are a secret!

Thank you for the weekly donations they will really help us mend and replace toys.

Who visited today?

By Mrs S JILKS20th November 2016

This week we came into Nursery to find snowy footprints all over the entrance floor leading into the class.  We asked the children if they could think about who had visited and why they came.  After discussion Jack and Aoife decided it was Father Christmas.  This was confirmed when we found a letter from him on Mrs Jilks chair.  He said he was just checking they were still working hard and where he had to come for our Christmas party day.

DSCN3869We used this event to encourage the children to listen to questions, encouraging them to  hear the beginning of each question to decide if it was a ‘what’ ‘who’ ‘where’ or ‘why’ question.  We will be working on this over the next few weeks.

Thank you for your donations to the Children in Need appeal, the children had fun making their bear ears. We are looking forward to seeing their colouring sheets of Pudsey bear.

Welcome back-Second half term.

By Mrs S JILKS6th November 2016

This week we have been finding out about Diwali.  We have made diya lamps, listed to the story of Rama and Sita and had a visit from Shaye’s dad. He came into to tell us how they celebrate Diwali and understand it better.  Shaye helped him show pictures and talk about the festival.  Thank you to both of you.DSCN3831 DSCN3833 DSCN3836 DSCN3830

DSCN3829

We have been using ICT equipment and games. The children are getting very good at turning the activities on and off. Charles enjoys putting the CD’s in the player and dancing with friends.  In maths we are looking at changes in quantity and the children have found this a little tricky so we will be continuing next week.

Please can you take a look online and sign your child up for our trip to the theatre if you havent already, thank you.

Big or little ?

By Mrs S JILKS16th October 2016
DSCN3667

We went a walk around the school to meet the people who help look after us. We met Mrs Cannon, Mrs Brennan, Mrs Quinn, Miss Clemons and Mr Cooke.

DSCN3645

We have been using the language of big and little to sort objects into sets. The children were all very good at this.

DSCN3730

We have been continuing our phonics by doing some good listening. We sang our song and the children in the middle had to listen carefully and say where the singing was coming from.  Below are some more photographs of the activities.

Tninking of others.

By Mrs S JILKS8th October 2016

Thank you for all your donations on Friday, the children were pleased to be able to help provide food for those not as lucky as themselves.  We took our tins into the hall to add to the donations from school.

We had a busy week continuing our work on shapes, and starting to explore books with rhyming words.  Two children each week will now take home the rhyme pack with books to share with parents. This really helps children to start to understand rhyme and alliteration and is hopefully a fun way of spending ten minutes at bedtime. The children went in small groups around the school spotting shapes in the environment, they found circles on the netball posts, rectangle signs and square windows.  We also have been working on sharing and taking turns with games and equipment and making sounds with different kinds of instruments in our phonic sessions.

Below are some photographs of the week. DSCN3567DSCN3624 DSCN3569 DSCN3572 DSCN3581 DSCN3577 DSCN3586 DSCN3584 DSCN3596 DSCN3568 DSCN3601 DSCN3597 DSCN3598
