Harvest gifts, pirates and pigs!

Thank you so much for your very generous donations for our Harvest celebrations.  The charities receiving them will be most grateful.

Reception have had a exciting week with visits from pirates and building houses out of straw (Three Little Pigs) just two of the highlights.  Both topics involved mathematics, literacy and understanding of the world in a fun way.  The children now know that a house built of straw is not the best material to use, particularly when its windy (and cleaning up the mess by the staff will not be forgotten either!)   They also had fun creating their own maps after following the one the pirates left to find treasure.

Creation, reading and shape !

We have had a very busy week this week making shapes working together in a group.  It was a little tricky but we managed to make squares, circles, triangles and rectangles.  We have been continuing to think about Creation and went on a walk around the school grounds finding the beautiful things God made.  We then used these to make pictures.

We all had our first reading book this week.  Thank you for sharing them with your child.  Please continue to practise the first nine words.

Thank you for the donations towards toys and activities, this will really  help provide a fun learning experience for the children.

Next week Reception are joining in with bright colours for Cafod on Friday.   Children can come to school in bright clothes and we are asking for a food donation to help support those in need.  More information is on the school newsletter.

Autumn weaving

The children had a great time thinking about Autumn and the colours it provides for us.  We made some Autumn sculptures using branches and coloured ribbon.  When they had finished weaving the children went into the Forest School to find leaves and twigs to add to their work.  Thank you to Year 4 for making the frames for us.

The children are settling well into school life and adapting to the new routines.  We are adding to these by sending home our first reading book for you to share.  The books will come home on Monday and we would like them returned on Friday (letter explaining more will accompany the book).  We have also been learning phonemes (letter sounds) during our phonic sessions.   Below are the phonemes we have covered so far.  We would be grateful if you could practise these with your child.  Thank you.

Outdoor learning in Reception

Number line

We went outside to work on number recognition. We used the numbers on the playground to play games to help us to recognise the numbers. We then used the wooden discs to make a number line to 20.

Well done to Finlay and Harry who are our Stars of the Week for great Mathematics work.

We have also been doing our daily exercise outside.  It is hard to keep moving for 15 minutes!

Phonics outdoors

We made good use of the sunny weather today and practised our phonics outdoors.  This weeks phonemes are I n d m.

We also went outside to build, role play and count.  Please could we ask that you send in a box of tissue’s to help with the runny noses at this time of the year.  Thank you.

A fantastic first week!

We have been very busy this week learning and exploring new things.  Our favourite activity has been exploring in the Forest School area.  We have worked together to build and climb.  We have also learnt 4 phonemes this week, they are s a t p.    We practised writing them and making words with them to read.  We have built, role played and coloured.  These are some more photographs of our weeks

PE and Phonics ! Fun in Reception

We have started our Phonic lessons this week and have already learnt the phonemes s and a.  We talked about the phonemes and thought about some things that begin with them.  We then practised writing them.  We are using cursive script in Reception this year and would be grateful if you could encourage your child to write in the cursive style.  If you are not too sure  how the letters are formed, examples can be found on the website, on the Literacy curriculum page.

We also had our first PE lesson with Jade.  We danced, jumped and moved around the hall.

Full House! Reception meet more new friends

What a lovely morning today now that we have a full class.  The children really enjoyed meeting up with old friends and making new ones.  We continued to explore the environment and sharing activities.  School dinners are going well for most children.  Hopefully we will be able to have some more time outdoors tomorrow.  Below are a few photographs of our day.

 

Welcome Reception

Well done to all the children who started Reception today.  They had a great morning meeting new friends and exploring the indoor and outdoor space.   We had time outside keeping fit, running after Mrs Jilks and balancing on the lines to keep us safe from the sharks!     The children also enjoyed having their first school lunch.  We are looking forward to see the rest of the children tomorrow.

Fun in the Sun!

We have had a great couple of days in the sunshine and crafting inside.  We made aeroplanes to say Thank You to the Key workers and hung them up in the Forest School. We played in the shade and had an lce lolly treat. We also made spinning discs and decorated our initial.
