13.11.20

By Sarah Scofield16th November 2020

Hello Everyone,

What a busy week we’ve had in Nursery! On Tuesday the children had an amazing time in P.E when they went on a pirate adventure – they were so involved and had great fun with their teacher, Chez. Wednesday was Remembrance Day and the other teachers in school were very impressed with the way Nursery children stood in silence for two minutes – we were the best in the school! The children made beautiful poppies using different materials and I’m sure you couldn’t miss the giant poppy badges they made to wear on their jumpers. On Thursday we learnt about Diwali and we made Rangoli patterns with coloured pasta, Mandalas in the playdough and mendhi patterns using lentils and sequins. The children looked wonderful on Friday for Children in Need day and we continued the theme of looking at different shapes and patterns that we had talked about in the week. Of course the best part of the day was decorating and then eating spotty biscuits at snack time! The children were very impressed with how we could make a rainbow using Skittles, a plate and a cup of warm water – we had some great predictions about what would happen when we poured the water onto the plate. Next week out letter sound we are focussing on in phonics is ‘t’ and we will be looking at different materials made out of wood, plastic, metal and glass.

Zooming into November

By Sarah Scofield6th November 2020

Hello Everyone,

We have had a great week back in Nursery and luckily we have had some beautiful sunny days for learning outside. Activities we have been doing this week are; leaf printing, sorting Autumn objects, matching objects including pairs of socks and describing why they match, cutting out shapes to make rockets, colouring rockets and making firework noises. In R.E we have been thinking about people who care for us and the children have done some lovely pictures of their family members. In phonics this week we have been learning the letter sound (phoneme) ‘s’ and thinking about names and words that begin with this sound. Our phoneme next week will be ‘a’. On Monday we were also lucky to have a special cake for All Souls’ Day. We celebrated three birthdays this week for Leo, Freddie and Anaya, whose birthdays were during half term – HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Next week we will be doing activities based around Diwali. Have a good weekend.

We love sandwiches!

By Sarah Scofield23rd October 2020

Hello Everyone,

I can’t believe its half term – where has the time gone?! Carrying on from reading ‘Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches’, we carried out a survey to find out who did or didn’t like egg sandwiches and then we found out what our favourite sandwiches were. The children loved making their own sandwich today and of course the best part was eating them at snack time! (Because we have lots of allergies /intolerances/dietary requirements, we used vegetable spread and not butter.) On our first day back after half term it is non-school uniform day to celebrate All Soul’s Day – so the children can come to Nursery wearing their normal clothes. Enjoy your half term break everyone!

By Sarah Scofield16th October 2020

Hello Everyone,

We have been going bonkers with conkers this week! The children have made some lovely collages with our Autumn collections and they have been great for counting activities too. We have also enjoyed doing lots of fine motor skills activities such as making dots with paint and cotton buds. Our favourite story this week has been ‘Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches!’ which the children loved joining in with, so next week we will be doing a survey with the children to find out what their favourite sandwiches are and then we will be making and devouring them. Finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Savannah, who is four years old today! Have a good weekend.

Wellie Weather

By Mrs S Schofield2nd October 2020

Hello Everyone,

Well, wellie weather has definitely arrived and the children have been putting their wellies to good use – next week we will be going on a wellie walk around the grounds to look at all the wonderful things God has created in our world. If you go on any Autunm walks at the weekend or over the nex few weeks it would be great if you could collect any conkers, acorns, leaves or objects of interest, that we could use in our art work or for a display. This week we have also been doing lots of different mark making, counting, model making. working on recognising our names, listening games and talking about our special talents and things we are good at. I have to say, we were very impressed on Tuesday when the children had their photos taken in the hall – the children took everything in their stride and I have to say for the first time I can remember, there were no tears or any reluctant models – cheesy grins abounded! Thank you to everyone who has sent in baby photos – we have loved looking at them. If you haven’t done so yet, could you please send in a baby photo of your child next week. On Friday next week the whole school will be celebrating Harvest with CAFOD, so the children need to come to Nursery wearing bright colours and with a donation of a tin or packet of food. Finally, we had two birthdays to celebrate this week – Happy Birthday to Oskar and Milo! We hope you have a good and not too rainy weekend!

Autumn is Here!

By Mrs S Schofield25th September 2020

Hello Everyone,

Well Autumn has definitely arrived and our wellies have been put to good use this week! Luckily we have still been able to get outside even if it is just under our outside shelter when it has been raining – perhaps it might be a good idea to start sending in hats, gloves and scarves soon. Thank you to those of you who have sent in bulbs and seeds to plant – we now have a plentiful stock and we started to plant our daffodil bulbs today which the children loved. Because of the rule of six in homes, that has been introduced by the government, when it is a child’s birthday in Nursery, we don’t want the children to miss out on celebrating with their friends, so we will hold a little party in Nursey for them. Today was Joseph’s birthday, so Happy Birthday from everyone in Nursery! Thank you for any £1 contributions you have made this week – I will put our Teddy money box outside every day if you want to pop a pound in – these contributions help us to buy things such as compost for planting, so we really appreciate these donations. Have a good weekend everyone!

Hello Everyone,

Luckily we have had lovely weather so we have had lots of fun outside this week. The children have been doing lots of mark making with chalk, water and paint, as well as drawing some lovely pictures of their mummies. The children love counting in lots of different voices – ‘squeaky’ counting, fast/slow counting and their favourite ‘shouting’ counting! Next week we hope to start planting bulbs and bedding plants in our outside area so any donations of Spring bulbs etc will be greatfully recieved! Have a good weekend everyone.

A Fantastic First Week!

By Mrs S Schofield11th September 2020

Hello Everyone,

We have had a brilliant first week in Nursery – the children have settled very well and have quickly got used to our routines ( which includes a lot of hand washing and use of anti bac gel!). Luckily the weather has stayed fine and we have done a lot of our learning and play outside. On Tuesday the children went into the hall and had their first P.E session with Jade – we have to say the children were brilliant and they had great fun. If your child hasn’t brought in a pair of named pumps yet, could you please send some in ready for next week. We have loved looking at and talking about the childen’s ‘All About Me’ posters – thank you so much for sending them in. If you need to discuss anything with us please feel free to call the school or drop me an email. Have a good weekend!

First Nursery Photos

By Mrs S Schofield7th September 2020

Here are the Nursery photos I promised from last week. I do a blog every Friday and because we are unable to send learning journals home at the moment, I will try and post as many photos as I can so you can see what the children have been up to in Nursery.
