Thank you and goodbye!

By Sarah Scofield17th July 2020

Hello Everyone,

Well what can I say, apart from its been a highly unusual year. Both myself and Mrs McCloskey have been so sad that we didn’t get to continue to watch your children grow and develop and get them ready to fly off into Reception. It was wonderful seeing so many of you last week and if we missed you, we will see you all again in September. Thank you for all of your support this year, take care, stay safe and have a good Summer.

Farewell Nursery!

By Sarah Scofield6th July 2020

Hello Everyone!

I hope you have all been keeping safe and well. Myself and Mrs McCloskey have been having a sort out in Nursery and we would like to return items from P.E boxes and the lovely ‘All about Me’ posters as well as a few other things we have put together for the children. We would like to drop these things off to the children on Thursday this week (9th July) so don’t be alarmed if we turn up on your doorstep to make a delivery and to say a quick hello. Don’t worry if you are planning to go out or you won’t be in – we will leave your things by your door or in a safe place. If your child is attending All Sorts or Key Worker groups at the moment we will pop our head around the door to say hello and to pass things on. We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Hello Everyone,

Hope you are all keeping safe and well. Mrs McCloskey wanted me to send you a big thank you for the wonderful portraits you did for her birthday – she loved them – you made her feel very young and beautiful! She is looking forward to having a party with you all when we are back together again, She has sent us a photo of her amazing birthday cake – as you know, Mrs McCloskey loves birthday cake! Sending you all lots of love!

Reading Resource

By Miss R Corkerry8th May 2020

A few parents have been asking about reading and additional books. Unfortunately sending more books home isn’t something we are able to do at the moment however there is a comprehensive site called Reading Eggs that you can access from home.

https://readingeggs.co.uk/

The site is normally charged however they have a 30 day free trial for parents that will hopefully be able to assist with reading at home. All that is required is an email address for access and it will then ask you to set up a profile for your child/children.

Once you have activated your account your child will need to do the placement test (on their profile) this will show the level they need to begin at. For each level there are different activities, lessons and books that the children can read online. There are word recognition activities, reading comprehension and lessons they can complete.

The children work through the level with a map and when they get to the end of the activities and books there is then the chance to move onto the next level.

With the books you can choose between a ‘read to me’ function where the book is read aloud to them or the child reads the book out loud themselves. For those that are just beginning to read or struggle with some vocabulary it may give them a bit of confidence to have the book read to them first and then for them to try it themselves.

It is a good resource to use and as it is free to access for a short while it may be worth setting up an account if you feel your child is not reading enough or could benefit from more reading activities and practise. It is for all ages from 3 up to 13 years.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all keeping safe and well. Some of you are having difficulty opening the two documents I put into the home learning for this week – apologies as I’m not the most computer savvy person!  I have added ways you can adapt these activities on the Nursery home learning plan. Keep safe!

22.3.2020

By Mrs S Schofield22nd March 2020

Hello Everyone,

First of all Happy Mother’s (or Nanny’s) Day! It was with great sadness we said goodbye to you and your children on Friday but hopefully we will all come back together as a Nursery before the Summer. It has been such a joy and pleasure to teach your children and we are so proud of the progress they have made so far. My Weekly activities have been put online for the following week and they will be posted on the website every Sunday, ready for the week ahead. The most important thing you can do with your children is enjoy them, have fun, keep on talking to them, share lots and lots of stories and encourage them to ask and answer questions. Above all I would try and develop a curiosity and a desire to learn through hands on, practical activities such as cooking, gardening, art and craft activities. Turn that telly off and try and get out in the garden as much as possible – I still remember the joys of making mud pies – luckily my mother let me dig up the lawn  – or if you’re not as libereral, you could designate a part of the garden that they can dig up and call their own! There are lots of websites with great ideas and activities for the Early Years which we will try and keep you informed about. One of my favourite places to get great ideas from is Pinterest. If you have any queries or need help or support with your children, my email address can be found on the school website. Thank you so much for your continuing support and hopefully we will see you soon.

1.45  Arts and creative activities

2.45  Story time/Prayer time

We hope that this helps provide some guidance to how your day can be organised.  We will issue a Weekly Instruction Page that will give more details in each area of learning.  Please do not stress about this, we do appreciate everyone is working under different circumstances and may not have the time to complete the full timetable.  It is more important that you spend quality time with your children and that it is a happy and stress free time for you all.  Thank  you for your support.

COVID-19 UPDATE : A message from Mrs Quinn

By Mrs L Rae16th March 2020

A MESSAGE FROM MRS QUINN, HEADTEACHER:

Please can I assure you that there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at All Souls’. We have a number of children currently absent due to sore throats, raised temperatures and coughs.

We are grateful to those families who have informed us of these symptoms and taken the decision to isolate their child. As per the current Government guidance, whole families are now being told to self isolate should any one member display symptoms.

Up to date advice can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

We will not be providing work packs for those children absent at this time (unless in exceptional circumstances). Please encourage your child to:

  • Read – their reading book or other books at home
  • Write – keep a diary, write a review on a book they’ve read, write a story
  • Practice their spellings and times tables
  • Stay active – gentle indoor exercises
  • Say their prayers – they could try writing their own
  • Art – get creative with the resources you have at home

I take the health of our staff, children and their families very seriously and thank you for your cooperation and support during these difficult times.

Day 5 of British Science Week 2020

By Mrs J Hartwell14th March 2020

Our fifth and final day of British Science Week 2020 was just as brilliant as the rest of the week!

To end our Science-filled week, children were invited to come into school dressed as Mad Scientists – everyone looked fantastic!

We also had a slithering visitor as Synthia the snake came to say hello!

Thank you to Mrs Rolison and Suntrap Centre for sharing their amazing animals with us this week – a highlight for most children (and staff!) for sure!

We ended the day with a beautiful prayer service led by Miss Corkerry, reminding us of how much Science has made our lives better. We learned more about the life of Marie Curie, her contribution to Science and the the works of her charity before being encouraged to put our own God-given talents to good use.

A huge thank you to all children, parents and staff who helped to make British Science Week 2020 our best one yet! As always, your support is greatly appreciated.

Science Week

By Mrs S Schofield13th March 2020

Hello Everyone,

We have had great fun this week being scientists – our experiments generated great thinking and talking about what they thought would happen etc. Our experiments included;

Dancing raisins

Making a Gummy Bear grow

Making rainbows

How can we rescue the teddies from the ice!?

Put it in a bowl of hot water to melt the ice…

Put the bowl by the radiator…

Put it outside in the sun…

Put it in a dark cupboard…

Which one melted the quickest?

The children have loved the experiments so much we will make them a regular feature in Nursery.

Have a great weekend!

The Nursery Team
