World Book Day 2020

By Mrs J Hartwell5th March 2020

WOW! Thank you so much to everyone who helped make World Book Day 2020 a complete success!

The theme this year was ‘Share a Story’ and my gosh did we do that!

It was so lovely to see the children come into assembly this morning dressed as their favourite book character or in their bedtime pyjamas!

Here’s what each year group looked like today – see if you can spot who is really who!

Year Six

I’m sure you’ll agree that they all loooked FABULOUS!

Even the grown ups dressed up!

We had a very different type of assembly today as not only did we learn more about the World Book Day charity and what we could do to support them, we also embraced the theme as each teacher took it in turns to share a snippet of their favourite book!

By 10am, we had shared over 20 stories!

Each class then headed into our All Souls’ Book Swap Library to exchange their book swap token for a new book to take home and share. The children were so excited to see so many different books to choose from!

We even have a staff book swap up and running in our staff room!

Members of the Year 5/6 Book Club will be opening up our Book Swap Library on the last Thursday of every month to keep our book swapping going. Our next date for children to come and exhange their books will be Thursday March 27th. Once again, thank you all so much for your donations!

Competition Time!

Last but not least, it was competition time as each year group competed against another to win their World Book Day task. Winners will be announced in SuperStars tomorrow!

Book Swap

By Mrs J Hartwell3rd March 2020

All Souls’ Book Swap!

This year, we would like to get an ‘All Souls’ Book Swap’ up and running!

We will be launching this across the school this Thursday 5th March as part of World Book Day. The theme this year is to ‘Share a story’. We think this would be a great new way for children to find a great book to read, to recycle books they’ve finished with so that others can share in their story and to encourage reading for pleasure across the school.

We are asking for children to bring one book into school with them on World Book Day that they would like to swap during their viist to the Book Swap Library. We will then open the library back up once a month for children to continue swapping and sharing their stories throughout the year.

Thank you to all who have donated so many books already to give our Book Swap Library a much needed boost!

Sharing stories and pancakes!

By Mrs J Hartwell1st March 2020

Year 6 and Reception had the perfect end to a very busy half term as they shared in stories and pancakes!

Year 6 have been working really hard to write their own traditional tales for their prayer friends and were super excited to share them. Reception listened beautifully and could answer lots of questions about their stories. We then ended the afternoon by picking from a variety of toppings and enjoying some yummy pancakes ahead of Shrove Tuesday!

… and don’t forget the washing up!

3d Shapes

By Mrs S JILKS21st February 2020

This week we have been exploring 3d Shapes.  We have looked at cones, cubes, spheres, cuboids and pyramids.  The children have been bringing in things from home that are the same shape as the one we are looking at. We have also played lots of shape games.

We have been continuing to look at where we live and finding our homes on a map of Coventry.  We are encouraging the children to know their address.  They are beginning to understand it is important to know this in case they get lost.

The children really enjoyed the visit from the Bird man Alan and learnt a lot about birds of prey.  It was an experience to have an eagle fly over your head!

When we come back  it is Book Week and Reception will be joining in  with the dressing up,. This year it can be a favourite book character or pyjamas.

Have a great half term.

World Book Day

By Mrs J Hartwell20th February 2020

Thursday 5th March is World Book Day; a day to help to foster a love of reading in our children. To celebrate this day at All Souls’, we have decided to have a dress up and activity day. Children are invited to dress up as a book character or in their pyamas for the day (teaching staff will also be dressing up!). During the course of the day, children will take part in a variety of activities both in their classrooms and across school.

Our annual competition this year will take place in children’s classrooms. A winner for each phase will be picked and awarded with a prize!

Image result for all souls world book day 2020

From Wednesday 18th – 25th March we are holding a Scholastic Book Fair, in the school hall, where children and their families can browse and purchase books from £2.99. Children will also have been given a £1.00 Book Token to spend. Once we have made £300 worth of sales, school can access at least 25% of the amount to spend on books for our class reading areas. We hope that you will support this venture.

This year, we would like to get up and running an ‘All Souls’ Book Swap’, a new way for children to find a great book to read, to recycle books they’ve finished with and to encourage reading for pleasure. More details of this will follow soon but to help us get it up and running,we would appreciate any book donations (age 3 – 11years).

Thank you for your continuing support.

British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. The theme this year is ‘Our Diverse Planet’.

To celebrate, throughout the week, we will be doing lots of exploration around the theme of journeys and the Science all around us which will involve a whole school carousel of investigations and maybe even some animals to meet

The Birdman

By Mrs J Hartwell20th February 2020

We had the BEST Wednesday this week as we were lucky enough to receive a visit from Alan, Cybil, Billy, Alaska & Sparky. We absolutely loved meeting them all and learned so much information, not only about the birds but also how we can help to look out for our planet.

Subtraction, St Valentine and Exploring Music and Song.

By Mrs S JILKS16th February 2020

We had a great time putting our dance lessons to good use at our St Valentine’s disco. There were some great moves on show.

We have been exploring technology and thinking about how to stay safe online. We completed shape games on the I Pad.

In mathematics we have been completing subtraction number sentences, we used the number squares to practising taking away.  Some of us then showed our understanding by completing subtraction worksheets independently.  We are getting very clever!

In our expressive arts lesson we have been working in groups to change the words to a familiar song.  We have some video clips of this that we hope to be able to show on our blog, keep looking out for them.

We have a lot of coughs and colds and runny noses.  We have run out of tissues so would be grateful  if you could donate a box to help keep us germ free.

Next week we are looking forward to the Bird man assembly and also a tennis taster session.   We break up on Friday for half term.
