Winter!

19th January 2024Michelle Smith

What a perfectly cold week to begin our winter learning! On Tuesday we went for a winter walk around our school looking for signs of winter. We had to wrap up warm because it was so cold. We found ice, bare trees, and frozen, crunchy grass.

We made Mrs Smith proud when we followed our walk with some fantastic winterĀ  writing!

In RE we had a think about all the people within our community who help us and made a prayer chain of thanks which is displayed on our prayer area. We are going to meet Father Paul on Monday to find out how he helps others so we wrote a list of questions of things we want to find out.

In maths we have been exploring 6, 7 and 8 and enjoyed subitising the number and representing it on a tens frame.

Little Nativity!

Reception and Nursery were absolute superstars in their Nativity. They sang beautifully and put on a great show, reminding us all of the true meaning of Christmas.

We are very proud of them all!

Space Facts!

1st December 2023Michelle Smith

Reception have had another busy week. We started with our Bearpee challenge for Children in Need. We worked so hard and had lots of fun too! Pudsey Bear even came to join us!

We continued our Space learning and this week did lots of fact finding all about Space. We were fascinated by it and enjoyed all the learning. We also joined a ‘live’ webchat with Tim Peake from the International Space Station where we saw how he eats, drinks and has fun in space without gravity! Drinking water was our favourite part! Ask your child if they can tell you a fact about space.

We enjoyed making split pin astronauts and space rockets using construction. We also made rockets in our maths as we are learning about shapes.

In amongst all this, we are busy rehearsing for our Nativity! We are working so hard on it, we can wait for you to see it!

It’s our PTA Christmas Fayre this weekend – hope that you can join us along with your families.

Reminder – Please send a Christmas jumper/t-shirt or an accessory (hat/headband) in your childs bag on Tuesday 5th!

What a fun and busy week!

24th November 2023Michelle Smith

Reception have had such a busy, exciting week! On Wednesday it was our class saint feast day. Saint Cecilia is the patron saint of music so we had a musical party day! Mrs Cooke kindly visited us for a fabulous music lesson where we all got to play different instruments. Thank you Mrs Cooke!

We then made our very own musical instrument and practiced playing them to a song.

After lunch we had a party full of musical party games and (of course!) cake and biscuits!

On Thursday we walked to the cinema to watch Paw Patrol. We had a wonderful time and were beautifully behaved. Mrs Smith and Mrs Elkins were very proud of all the children.

In amongst all the fun, Mrs Smith and Mrs Elkins have been busy assessing the children on their phonics and were pleased with the progress the children are making. What a great week it has been!

Whatever Next!

17th November 2023Michelle Smith

This week we began our learning based on the book ‘Whatever Next’. We acted out the story which was a lot of fun and have started to learn a little about Space. We have designed our own planet and have made a list of what we would take to the moon if we could go with Bear. We will continue our space learning in the coming weeks!

In Maths, we have been exploring numbers 4 and 5. We have looked at the composition of the numbers and have been finding 1 more and 1 fewer. We also made our own set of number cards which we have taken home to help us to subitise.

Reminders for next week:

Wednesday 22nd – Non uniform to celebrate our class Saint

Thursday 23rd – Cinema trip

Have a lovely weekend!

First Week Back!

10th November 2023Michelle Smith

It sounds like you all had a wonderful holiday. The children have enjoyed sharing their news this week.

It’s been a busy first week back! We learnt a little about Bonfire night and produced some fantastic art work. In maths we have been learning all about numbers 4 and 5. In RE we have been learning about our church and some of the special jobs people do there. We used construction to build our own churches – they were brilliant. We have also learned about Remembrance Day and have made a beautiful display with our art work and drawings.

It’s our Reception Welcome Mass on Sunday at 9.30. We hope to see you there!

Dare I mention the ‘C’ word… Christmas is edging ever closer!! Our Christmas play dates are Wednesday 13th December (afternoon) and Thursday 14th December (morning). Further details to follow.

Have a lovely weekend!
