Autumn!

This week we have began our leaning all about Autumn. We started off with a sunny Autumn walk. We looked for signs of Autumn around our school grounds and found some beautiful leaves and plenty of acorns! We have been looking closer at conkers, acorns, leaves etc in our classroom too and have been touching them, making patterns and pictures with them and have been describing them. We have also created some fantastic leaves using oil pastels.

It’s parents evening next week. I am looking forward to meeting with you all. There is still time to make an appointment if you haven’t already done so!

Class Mass

The children in Year 6 and Reception thoroughly enjoyed sharing in their first class mass together as prayer friends this week.

Year 6 were fabulous role models to Reception and Reception were exceptional in showing reverence and respect during this very special time of prayer!

Month of the Holy Rosary

Today, Catholic Schools were called to participate in a global campaign to get 1 million children praying the rosary for peace and unity in the world. During hymn practice this morning, the Chaplaincy Team led the children in praying the Rosary together.

How do you feel today?

On Tuesday we came to school wearing hats for ‘Hats on for Mental Health’ day. We talked about what that means and the importance of keeping our minds healthy. Mrs Smith read the book ‘Colour Monster’ to us. We talked about the different feelings – sad, happy, angry, calm, frightened, loved and confused and that it’s OK to feel all these things. We did some fantastic writing and art this week based on the book!

In Maths we have been leaning all about the numbers 1, 2 and 3! We have been counting, subitising, matching numeral to quantity and finding different ways to make each number. We played a listening game where we had to listen to how many marbles were dropped into the jar and show Mrs Smith using our fingers how many we heard. We were very good at it!

We have also enjoyed having our school guinea pigs this week. We have learnt how to handle them and we look forward to learning more when the visit us next time!

Date for your diary! Reception Welcome Mass will be on Sunday 12th November at 9.30. It would be wonderful to see you there!

Support with sleep and sleep routines

We would like to make parents aware of a free service that is available to support children and adults for whom sleep and sleeping routines are a problem.

At any given time up to 40% of adults and 50% of children (this rises to 80% with a SEND diagnosis) have difficulties with their sleep. Yet, surveys suggest that almost 60% of adults feel that there was a lack of support for sleep issues. Sleep problems can leave people feeling isolated and lonely.

The National Sleep Helpline is run by trained sleep advisors, many of whom are specialists in working with SEND. They are able to young people directly, or parents (they can also talk to adults, including older people, about their sleep issues).

The helpline is open 5 times a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings 7-9pm, and Monday, Wednesday mornings 9-11am. The number is 03303 530 541.

Hats on 4 Mental Health

Pattern Week!

This week Reception have had a busy week learning all about repeated patterns. We made repeated patterns in as many different ways as possible! We used Duplo, cubes, pompoms and loose parts to make patterns. We made fruit skewers, used paint and sponges and even practiced our phonics sounds learnt so far to make a repeated pattern! We used our voices and bodies and also used musical instruments. We had lots of fun along the way. Mrs Smith and Mrs Elkins are very impressed with our learning this week!

In phonics this week we learnt ‘i’, ‘n’, ‘m’ and ‘d’. We are trying so hard to learn how to recognise these sounds and how to write them.

In RE we had a beautiful prayer service. We thought about all the things God made and each took turns to say a short thank you prayer.

Thank you for your generous donations today for our local foodbank. The children looked wonderful dressed in so many colours!

Happy Maternity Leave, Mrs McGrath!

Today we said goodbye to our wonderful Deputy Headteacher, Mrs McGrath, in a whole school offering of prayers. We wish her all the best as she begins her maternity leave and jeep both hr and her husband in our prayers as the arrival of baby gets closer. Although we can’t wait to meet the new addition, we will miss seeing her every day! We love you, Mrs McGrath x

Another busy week!

Reception have had another busy week! In RE explored God’s creation on a walk around our school grounds. We also made some fantastic creation crowns!

In Maths, we have been learning about ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ and also ‘big’ and ‘small’. We were very good at making big towers and small towers in the construction.

We began our phonics this week we have learnt our first few sounds – s, a, t and p! We also enjoyed some rhyming games and stories. Our favourite was ‘Oi, Frog!’ Mrs Elkins particularly enjoyed it as she hadn’t heard it before.

Your child will be coming home with their first reading book today. We hope they enjoy reading it to you over the weekend!
