Our final day of activities and what an amazing way to finish! We have absolutely loved our time here in such a wonderful place. We have learnt so much about ourselves, our friends in our class and conquered our fears.
Group D took on mountain and mine today as they went underground in an adventure into the past. They learnt about the role of miners in Wales and how dangerous the job could be. Having sat in complete darkness they emerged to a gorgeous afternoon and upon reaching the summit of the mountain took some time to reflect on their time at Dol-y-moch.
Group E also took on mountain and mine spending nearly two hours underground in very dim light. The children took on different challenges inside the mine including rowing a boat across 100ft deep water, moving across a thin edge using carabiners to get from one side of a chamber to the other, again over deep water and navigating their way up a rapidly flowing waterfall with only each other to help them get to the top. The children ate their lunch by candlelight and experienced complete darkness where they couldn’t even see their hand in front of their face.
Group F had a rock and water day beginning with kayaking/canoeing on the lake. The children got to choose whether they would prefer to try out a kayak or a canoe and got to work learning how to row efficiently to move around the lake. They also took part in the infamous Dol-y-moch dive off the plank and into the water. In the afternoon, children were down at the beach enjoying the gorgeous afternoon sunshine, rock scrambling and creating beautiful formation of sand art.
