It has been a busy week in Year 6. Here is a quick overview of what we have been up to:

We began the week with a whole school assembly, where we took out seats upon the mighty benches. In Literacy, we reviewed our knowledge of sentence structures and promised to start using a variety of them in our writing. We then had ICT with Mr Youson and found out that this term we are going to be exploring digital media! In Numeracy, we got to grips with our Place Value and ended the day with an introduction to our Confirmation unit. We had the opportunity to ask lots of questions and wrote out our Confirmation prayer in our special Confirmation books.

On Tuesday, we had our first lesson with Mrs Ellis, where we had to really use our ears to listen out for particular instruments and beats within songs. We are really excited that we are going to write our ow song this term! We also had our first dance lesson with Mrs Cooke, which was good fun!

Our knowledge of the UK, Great Britain and the British Isles was put to the test on Wednesday as we completed some map work. In RE we explored the meaning behind some of the prayers we say regularly. Berri, Keon and Louis went to Bishop Ullathorne on our behalf to help plan the liturgy for our Untiy Mass on Friday. In the afternoon, we ‘interrogated’ our literacy book ‘Tuesday’ and had a lot of laughs making up the story to match the pictures. Our imaginations ran wild. We also played a fun game in Numeracy that involved reaching targets and beating our partners to secure our understanding of place value.

Our preparations for our farewell to Miss Kelleher took place on Thursday as we were given the task of singing Dancing Queen by Abba. We also made her a lovely card, ready to present to her on Friday. In the afternoon, we put our writing skills to the test as we wrote our own blurb to entice readers into our book, Tuesday.

We began Friday with our weekly Spanish lesson, where we practised our greetings and placed some games. Then came the dreaded spelling test. Most of us were pleased with our scores and felt like they reflected the amount of practice we put into them. Superstars assembly announced this week’s winners of the award as Issy, Hector and Ciaran for showing enthusiasm and commitment to All Souls’ life by applying for the various job opportunities on offer to Year 6. We then said our sad goodbyes and wished Miss Kelleher good luck in her new job as we sang our own rendition of Dancing Queen! After lunch, we went to St. Thomas More’s Church with lots of other primary schools and the Year 7’s of Bishop Ullathorne. Berri read her bidding prayer superbly and Drew and Luke carried our school banner with pride as we all joined together in unity.

Back at school, we all congratulated Joe as he became the second person to win Mrs Hartwell’s weekly raffle draw!

After school, most of last year’s Year 6’s come back to join us for pizza and chips. The plan was to provide an opportunity for everyone to find out how each other were getting on, ask any questions and generally catch up with each other, whilst filling our tummies with food. It ended up slightly more excitable than planned but we all had great fun!

Have a lovely weekend!

🙂
