The first week back after half term has been an exciting one, filled with many changes!

This week Y5 have been working full steam ahead and getting stuck into their work straight away! We have lots to catch up on so will have to work very hard, keeping our concentration and focus.

The classroom is now a bright, interesting and interactive space for learning and Y5 seem to love it! Between our Monday lessons, Y5 thoroughly enjoyed witnessing Mr Cooke and Miss Quinn nearly injure themselves as they tore the classroom apart, clearing out and creating so much space!

Although it is a working progress, the benefits are already very clear. Now, let’s get lots of wonderful work completed so we can fill those displays with our best efforts and really show off what we can do! The addition of a visual timetable at the front of the room proved very popular as our class know which lessons to prepare for throughout the day.

It’s not only the appearance of the classroom that has changed, Y5 have also been getting a little taste of what secondary school is like, having a few different teachers for different subjects!  Mr Cooke, Mrs Quinn, Miss Prior and Miss Quinn are making a joint effort to make sure Y5 are given a varied timetable with structured lessons. Y5 have adapted very well to this and are extremely motivated, which is fantastic to see!

Literacy –  we are really cracking down on grammar, sentence structure and other skills that must be consolidated before we move onto other topics. We need to really put every effort into this, Y5, as when we master these skills, we can use them across the board in any subject!

Numeracy – pupils should still be studying their times tables at home as this will make tackling our classroom topics seem much easier.

History– Mrs Quinn will be introducing the importance of historical timelines and the industrial revolution.

Science– Miss Prior has been re-visiting forces this week.

Art – We are finishing our last few lessons on landscapes– there are definitely some budding artists here in Y5.

RE – As we go through our Lenten journeys together, we created our own Lenten promise to write on a footstep that will be displayed around the school. Let us remember to be mindful of our promise and the type of person we would like to be throughout this holy period.

As the topics progress, we will keep you up to date, so watch this space!

Now… everyone has heard of the motto ‘work hard, play hard’ but only Y5 know just how seriously Mr Cooke takes this! Due to all our hard work and good behaviour, Mr Cooke let us have ‘FUN-TIME FRIDAY!’ At the end of the day, we turned up the music, put on our dancing shoes (as well as many other…erm..questionable wigs and hats) and really let go of the week’s stresses!

What a fantastic way to end a fantastic week! Well done Y5, let’s continue into the term with motivation, perseverance and respect for one another!

See you on Monday!

Mr Cooke and Miss Quinn.
