By Mrs J Hartwell12th March 2020

This morning, Year 6 visited a local Mandir to learn more about this Hindu place of worship as part of our RE unit on Hinduism.

Day 4 of British Science Week 2020

By Mrs J Hartwell12th March 2020

This afternoon was our last Science Carousel afternoon of British Science Week 2020 and after seeing the faces of all the children in our school across the week, I think it’s fair to say…

Image result for we love science

Year 1 and 2 were busy dunking biscuits and meeting some new less-than-furry friends:

Year 5 and 6 created snow fluff using a mixture of shaving cream and corn starch before seeing her could fly their rocket ‘mice’ the furthest:

Reception have been making volcanoes using coca cola:

To end our week of all things Science, children are invited to come into school dressed as Scientists! In return, we would really appreciate £1 donations towards our Science fund!

Thank you so much to all the teachers who have worked so hard to prepare these investigations for all involved and really bring British Science Week 2020 to life!

‘Speed Sainting’ – POSTPONED

By Mrs J Hartwell11th March 2020

Image result for Saints confirmation

We will be holding our annual ‘Speed Sainting’ event on Wednesday 18th March from 3.30pm-4.15pm.

Year 6 invite their parents, grandparents and/or sponsors to come along and take part! This is a great opportunity for the children to speak to a number of different adults about their choice of Saint in preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

As always, we appreciate your support in helping make these events worthwhile.

Shared Lenten Prayer Service

By Mrs J Hartwell11th March 2020

Year 6 and Reception shared in a beautiful Lenten prayer service based on the Lenten value of TRUST this afternoon.

We reflected on a piece of scripture from the Gospel according to Matthew which highlighted to us how trust is an important ingredient in our relationships with others and, most importantly, with God.

Well done to Isla, Bridget and Josie who planned, prepared a delivered this very special time with their prayer friends. They have given us the mission going forth to spend time together in the prayer garden to talk about who we trust and why trust is so important.

Year 5 and 6 have been busy dunking biscuits and meeting some new less-than-furry friends:

Reception have been exploring the colours of a rainbows using skittles and investigating where chocolate melts the quickest:

British Science Week 2020 Day2/5

By Mrs J Hartwell10th March 2020

This week, throughout the afternoons, each class will be visiting different teachers and their classrooms to explore their chosen ‘Big Question’.

Image result for our diverse planet

This afternoon, Year 1 and 2 joined in with the fun as they found out which nappy is the most absorbant and therefore the best to buy and investigated whether the weight of an egg affects the speed it travels:

Year 3 and 4 created snow fluff using a mixture of shaving cream and corn starch before seeing her could fly their rocket ‘mice’ the furthest:

Reception checked back on their flowers from yesterday and to their surprise, two out of the three flowers they had added food colouring to were starting to change colours! They also set up a new investigation into which drink is the most damaging for our teeth by adding chalk (acting as our teeth!) to different popular drinks…

Nursery were experimenting what happens when they mix food colouring, milk and washing up liquid – ask them what they found out!

We are super excited for the rest of the week!

By Mrs J Hartwell9th March 2020

What a fabulous start to British Science Week 2020!

We started our morning with a whole school assembly to remind everyone how diverse our planet is as that is the theme of our week!

This week, throughout the afternoons, each class will be visiting different teachers and their classrooms to explore their chosen ‘Big Question’.

So far, Year 3 and 4 have been busy testing which biscuit is the best for dunking and exploring the habitats of a variety of animals:

Year 5 and 6 have been finding out which nappy is the most absorbant and therefore the best to buy and investigating whether the weight of an egg affects the speed it travels:

Reception have also been busy setting up an experiment using food colouring to find out how flowers survive once they’ve been cut:

World Book Day 2020

By Mrs J Hartwell5th March 2020

WOW! Thank you so much to everyone who helped make World Book Day 2020 a complete success!

The theme this year was ‘Share a Story’ and my gosh did we do that!

It was so lovely to see the children come into assembly this morning dressed as their favourite book character or in their bedtime pyjamas!

Here’s what each year group looked like today – see if you can spot who is really who!

I’m sure you’ll agree that they all loooked FABULOUS!

Even the grown ups dressed up!

We had a very different type of assembly today as not only did we learn more about the World Book Day charity and what we could do to support them, we also embraced the theme as each teacher took it in turns to share a snippet of their favourite book!

By 10am, we had shared over 20 stories!

Each class then headed into our All Souls’ Book Swap Library to exchange their book swap token for a new book to take home and share. The children were so excited to see so many different books to choose from!

We even have a staff book swap up and running in our staff room!

Members of the Year 5/6 Book Club will be opening up our Book Swap Library on the last Thursday of every month to keep our book swapping going. Our next date for children to come and exhange their books will be Thursday March 27th. Once again, thank you all so much for your donations!

Competition Time!

Last but not least, it was competition time as each year group competed against another to win their World Book Day task. Winners will be announced in SuperStars tomorrow!

Year 6 visit to a Mandir

By Mrs J Hartwell5th March 2020

As part of their study of another religion, Year 6 have been learning about Hinduism and have the fantastic opportunity to go and visit a local Mandir.

We are visiting the Mandir – Hindu Society Coventry on Thursday 12th March 2020.  We will be leaving school at approximately 9:30-10.00am to arrive for our 10:30 session, during which the children will be able to experience a guide around the Mandir, be able to hear first-hand all about the religion and gain an in-depth understanding of Hinduism. We will then be returning to school in time for lunch.  Children should be in full school uniform and will need to take their shoes off before entering, meaning tights or socks are a requirement.  There is no cost to the trip and as it is within school hours and local, consent is not required. If however for any reason you do not want your child to attend this then please see me beforehand so other arrangements can be made.

Mrs Hartwell
