Transition Day & Sleepover

By Mrs J Hartwell8th July 2015

I hope all of Year 6 enjoyed their transition day at their new schools today (and those of you who helped me – thank you!).

I also enjoyed getting to know my new class – Year 5 – who will be joining me and Mrs Elkins in September.

Just a few reminders for tomorrow! Year 6 need to come into school in their uniform and bring with them the following:

  • a change of clothes and appropriate footwear to change into after school for some fun and games
  • pyjamas
  • a sleeping bag (to go to sleep in at 8pm!) and pillow
  • underwear and socks
  • school uniform for Friday
  • PE Kit and trainers for Friday’s Sport’s Day
  • Lunch for both Thursday and Friday (unless you receive school dinners)
  • Money for McDonalds and reply slip
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Children may also bring in games including electronics, although no mobile phones.
  • Water-guns also encouraged! 🙂

Year 6 Trip: Ackers Adventure

By Mrs J Hartwell2nd July 2015

Just a few reminders for tomorrow!

All children need to:

– Wear their All Souls tracksuit (jogging bottoms, t-shirt and hoody – these are a must for the skiing activity) when they arrive to school. They may also have your PE shorts on underneath in case it becomes warm.

– Have appropriate footwear on.

– Wear sunscreen and have extra in their bag to apply as necessary.

– Have a backpack. Inside this they should have their lunch in a carrier bag,a small towel and a full set of clothes (t-shirt and shorts for example) including underwear and footwear to change into for the kayaking activity – they will get wet!

– A carrier bag to put their wet clothes inside.

– A pair of gloves (this is an absolute must for the skiing activity).

– Be on time for their departure slot.

– Be ready to have lots of fun, be adventurous, try new things and make lots more memories!

Thanks. See you in the morning.

A kind request for any photos and/or videos you may have of Year 6 throughout their time here at All Souls. If you have any hard copies, I will scan them in and return the originals back to you but if you have any digital copies that you could email to me, that would be great.

Many thanks,

Year 6 blog

*Orla O, Kelsey & Aoife*

By Mrs J Hartwell22nd May 2015

On Monday, we all happily skipped into school because we were all off to Allesley Park for a landscape art trip and mini picnic. However, much to our disappointment, it was raining cats and dogs! Unfortunately, the event has been postponed to after the half term holidays due to the expected thunderstorms and auditions for our amazing play. We can’t wait until we actually get to go!

Instead, Mrs Hartwell and Mrs Elkins hosted a challenging competition involving art straws, tape, scissors and a half-full water bottle. It was very tricky and the only group to get theirs to hold the bottle was Ciara, Orla J and Jude. Well done to everyone who took part. We then did a full read through of the script for our play – Porridge! Everyone read a selected part and all did incredibly well. In the afternoon we learned about electrical circuits and played circuit symbol bingo.

The next day(Tuesday) we all became electricians when we made our own circuits in groups and we all did extremely well: some of us could start our own electrical business when we are older! In music, everyone sang their hearts out as we practised all of the songs for Porridge; some of us even had the bravery to sing a solo in front of the class! After that, we all headed down to the P.E hall in order to record our very own music videos with Miss Kelleher. Popular songs and styles chosen were: When The Beat Drops Out, Shake It Off and Uptown Funk; Bollywood, Acro and Jazz. You can view the mind blowing videos below.

*VIDEOS TO FOLLOW*

Group1: Michael, Bronagh, Finn and Grace B.

Group2: Lewis, Roisin, Sophie, Henryk and Callum M.

Group3: Jordan, Kelsey, Jude, Ben S and Orla O.

Group4: Ju-Eun, Kupa, Joseph, Grace H and Maticia.

Group5: Amie, Annie, Orla J, Ciara and Aoife.

Group6: Cecilia, Catherine, Ciaran, Callum K and Ben J.

Finally the day came that we had all been waiting for – AUDITION DAY!

On Thursday we all came into school ready to show the judges (Mrs Hartwell, Mrs Elkins, Mr Cooke and Mrs Ellis) what we had in store for them. We all really enjoyed our auditions and some of us even stood in front of Year 6, the judges AND Year 5 to audition for a solo. After a quick breath of fresh air for the judges to deliberate, we found out who we had in the play! It was very exciting and we couldn’t wait to get highlighting and discussing with our ‘play family’ our roles!

It certainly was a fantastic week to end an amazing half term. We can’t believe we only have one more left to go – just 7 weeks left at All Souls!

We’re ready to make them really good ones to remember!

Year 6 are fabulous!

By Mrs J Hartwell16th May 2015

Well done to all of Year 6 who have completed their KS2 SATs this week – you are all fabulous!

As a reward for their hard work and commitment, the children had a chill out day on Friday where they spent quality time with each other playing laughing and eating of course! We started the day with some rounders and cricket, thanks to Mr Youson! We then had the pleasure of watching everyone perform their talents to the rest of the class.

Grace H and Aoife showcased their gymnastic talents:

Callum showed us some of his football skills:

Annie sang a beautiful version of Ella Henderson’s song ‘Yours’. Unfortunately, I was so engrossed in listening to her sing, I forgot to take a photo. Re-take Annie?

The children rehearsed and performed their talents well. It was a perfect time for us to recognise eachother’s talents outside of academic subjects. The children voted for their favourite act.

1st place: Roisin Gaffney

2nd place: Joe and Henryk

3rd place: Annie

Well done all!

After lunch, it was party time! We enjoyed a shared buffet and some yummy pizza, whilslt we played games, sang and danced along to the music (and took a LOT of selfies thanks to Orla’s selfie stick!).

I hope Year 6 enjoyed the day celebrating their achievements, talents and friendships.

They truly have made Mrs Elkins and me proud!

Wow! What a week we’ve had! We had an amazing kick start to the week with a maths and literacy treasure hunt making our revision much more fun! In the afternoon, we continued to revise our grammar knowledge by competing in a grammar-off!

After a brain-training Monday, we continued to revise more on Tuesday. However we did break it up a little with a Science lesson learning about Electricity. We made some amazing posters to teach others all about staying safe with electricity. In the afternoon, we practiced some songs for the much anticipated play… PORRIDGE! Following this, we put our dancing shoes and began planning out dance in preparation for making a music video!

Wednesday had more treasure hunts in store to practice our mental maths – we got pretty competitive! This only got worse as we competed to solve a murder mystery using our knowledge of punctuation to narrow down the list of suspects. In PE we started putting together our own sequences for gymnastics: some of us worked independently whilst others worked in partners.

Our Friday ICT lesson involved us starting to create our own websites – We can’t wait to complete them and make them live! Mrs Hartwell also handed her teaching hat over to us as she set us the task of learning about something we find tricky and teaching it to someone else – it was really fun to do and really helpful to remember those little things some of us had forgotten!

You can see Michael and Ben J’s rap on different types of nouns… It took a while to get the full rap out as Michael kept bursting into laughter…

Well done to Sophie and Aoife for receiving Superstar this week for the superb efforts!

Happy Easter!

3rd April 2015Mrs J Hartwell

Wow – What a super busy term! Time has flown whilst Year 6 have been busy being mathematicians, authors, radio advertisers, game creators, scientists, geographers and much much more! I am so proud of how hard all of Year 6 have worked this term and how much progress they have continued to make!

We have also had our share of fun and laughter! Most recently, Crazy Hair Day saw Year 6 sporting a range of crazy do’s to raise money for Myton Hospice! On Wednesday morning the children and teachers were very sneaky as they played some naughty tricks on each other for April Fools Day. Aoife made some tasty barbeque sauced filled croissants to add to Mr Youson’s Ketchup filled doughnuts in the Staffroom, which a few teachers naively tucked into! Roisin offered some toothpaste cupcakes around the playground whilst Miss Cowley got her own back on Mr Youson when she turned him into a glitter fairy! Up in Year 6, Mrs Hartwell and Mrs Elkins had been hatching their own tricks. Children opened the toilet lids to find scary monsters staring back at them, whilst Annie delivered me my glasses I had been looking for…

I got my own back as I gave children a quiz to do which had them acting out all sorts of silly things! I rewarded the first 5 children to finish with a tasty treat – a swiss roll (a swiss roll that had been unrolled and had its jam filling exchanged for ketchup). Muahahaaaaaa….

Yesterday, we ended the term with a mix of emotions as we helped our prayer friends on an Easter Egg Treasure Hunt, cheered on the Easter Bonnet Parade, said our goodbyes to Mr Brightside by singing him our very own version of his song, congratulated all the winners of the Easter Raffle before shedding a tear as we wished each other a safe and happy Easter holiday (knowing deep down how much we’d all miss one another!).

So, Year 6, enjoy your Easter holidays, as you truly deserve it! (Although, don’t forget to do your homework – check the homework page for details to refresh your memory).

Happy Easter! 🙂

Mrs Hartwell
