Year 2 had a great time trying different foods from Zimbabwe! Thanks so much to parents for making food to send in, we really enjoyed it and hopefully the children found a new favourite recipe!

Dear parents/carers
To finish our writing unit of traditional tales, on Friday 18th February we will be watching Shrek. It is rated as a PG so please could you let me know if you have any reservations before next Friday.
Many thanks
Miss Clarke
Year 2 made our lovely soups this afternoon!
First, we chopped and prepared the vegetables.
Then we added everything into the soup maker and started the soup maker!
And 30 minutes later they were ready to try! I thought they were all really tasty!
Finally we evaluated our soups and thought about things we’d do differently next time.
Year 2 have taken part in Safer Internet Day this morning. First, we listened to the story of Digiduck and the Magic Castle.

It was about some characters who were playing a game online and accidently bought things in the app after typing in a password. We discussed what the characters should have done, what a safe password includes and if it’s a good idea to share a password.
Then, we sorted things that were safe to share online and these we need to keep private.
Afterwards as a class, we discussed why it was or wasn’t safe.

The children had an interesting afternoon tasting soups yesterday. They tried tomato, carrot and parsnip, vegetable, leek and potato and mushroom. The latter didn’t go down too well but they loved tomato! We were seeing which flavours we liked and didn’t like and thinking about the other ingredients in the soup that we could taste. This afternoon we will be designing a soup ready to make one next week!
Thank you to Scarlett’s mum in Year 2 for sending in this brilliant photo of Scarlett taking part in an environmental project to tick off one of the 101 pledges. Excellent effort Scarlett!

As part of our learning about Zimbabwe we are going to have a food tasting session on Monday 14th February. I would really appreciate your support in this by having a go at cooking a recipe with the children and bringing it in on Monday for us to try. There are lots of recipe ideas online (I found some on Pinterest) but please see me if you need any help finding a recipe. You can choose a sweet or savoury dish! All tasting will be done in a COVID safe way- the children will have a plastic bowl which we will put the food in one at a time and a spoon each! Please avoid nuts.
Thank you in advance,
Miss Clarke
Year 2 have been looking after the guinea pigs this week and today we got to stroke and some of us even held them! We look forward to spending more time with them next week too.
This week we have finally written our film reviews about Paw Patrol after going to the cinema in November to watch it! Here are a few great examples of what the children said.
Next week we begin our new unit about traditional tales.
We have also started our new learning about Data. We have been able to collect information using a tally chart and today we created a pictogram about the colours in a bag of skittles!
Next week we are creating block diagrams and answering questions about data.
We also named our gluesticks today in hope that we look after them as best as we can! Bill, Fred, Ron, Stan and Trevor are all relaxed now ready for the weekend!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Clarke x
