Spritebox

Year 3 finished their coding lessons this term by playing on a game called Spritebox. In this game the children have to move a character across different levels collecting as many coins as they can, however along the way they face various obstacles which they have to overcome. To do this they have to use the coding skills they have learnt in order to move the character along.

Dol-y-Moch Mile Sponsorship Money

We have received over £350 in sponsorship money so far. I will be sending it over to Dol-y-Moch after Easter, so you have until the first week back after the break to bring it into school. Thank you to everyone who has already sent it in, it is greatly appreciated!

Mud Run Update

Our 2nd mud run is nearly here and it looks set to be bigger and better than last year. We have mud pits, bench climbs, tyre runs, slip and slides, obstacle challenges and much much more. If your child hasn’t handed in their consent form then get it in to us before Friday morning so they can take part in this great day.

Cross Country Relay

Yesterday, 4 boys and 4 girls took part in the Catholic Cross Country Relay Competition at Bablake playing fields.

The girls were up first, we had Josie and Bridget from Year 3, Maisie from Year 4 and Martha from Year 6 representing our school. They all performed magnificently running around the mile long course finally finishing in a very respectable 8th position. This position was even more impressive considering we had most of our team from lower KS2 and they were running against Year 5 and 6 children – well done girls.

The boys were up next, this time it was Kai and Lorcan from Year 4 and Joshua and Ewan from Year 6 running. Having had a good team score in the individual race, hopes were high that the boys could get into a medal position. Ewan started the race and finished his lap in 4th place, this was maintained on the 2nd lap ran by Joshua. Kai ran the penultimate lap and managed to get the team into 3rd with a very impressive run. Finally Lorcan ran the last lap and as hard as he tried, although closing all the time on 2nd, finished his lap in 3rd and winning the team a bronze medal each. Superb effort from everyone – congratulations boys!

Good luck to all the girls running this Saturday in the Coventry Schools Cross Country, again at Bablake fields.

Scratch Synchronised Swimming

Year 4 were learning to to be coders this afternoon and created a synchronised swimming game. They had to create a sprite (a character) that cloned itself 6 times and then control it by performing synchronised moves. You can play one of the games below.

Making Games in Scratch

Year 5 had the choice of making a variety of games in today’s computing lesson. They were given instructions of the game and asked to try and create them independently. You can play a couple of them below.

Year 5 Drawing

Over the last few weeks Year 5 children have been learning how to code using scratch. They first made a maze game where they had to code a character to get to the end without touching any of the sides. After this they created a Harry Potter quiz, this game needed to be interactive as well as asking the player various questions, it also had to incorporate a scoring system. See how good you knowledge of Harry Potter is by playing Henry’s quiz.

 

 

They then made a drawing game for the reception children to play. They had the task of making the pen draw when the mouse was clicked and not to when it wasn’t. They also had to add in different colours, sizes and a rubber. You can play Sophie’s version of this game below.
