Football Rally

By Mr R YOUSON17th May 2016

Congratulations to the football who finished runners up in the football rally on Monday 16th May.

Having won our group with 2 wins and a draw the boys faced St Thomas More in the semi final, the only team to beat us in the league this year. As expected it was an extremely close game that finished 1 -1 at full time. This meant that the game had to go to golden goal extra time, however this couldn’t even separate the teams and therefore a player from each team was removed every minute until either 2 players remained or someone scored. Finally with only Ethan, James and Ryan left we managed to score a goal that took us through to the final.

The final was against St Augustine’s and although all of the children were either extremely worn out or injured they still managed to put in a great performance despite losing the game 1-0. Many of the children played in positions they were not used too and some even played through their injuries, this is a great credit to the boys who played really well as team throughout the competition. Well Done!

Below are pictures of the boys celebrating winning the league, a trophy they share with St Augustine’s as both schools finished with same amount points.

Tennis fun!

By Mr R YOUSON9th May 2016

On Friday the children enjoyed a sample tennis lesson with John from Beechwood Tennis club. They really enjoyed this taster and learned some new games to help develop their tennis skills. John has given each child a pamphlet for a free tennis session, more information can be found on the leaflet.

First Holy Communion

9th May 2016Mr R YOUSON

A big congratulations and well done to all the children who made their First Holy Communion’s this weekend. The girls were dressed beautifully and the boys looked very smart. Myself and Ms Croarken couldn’t be any prouder of them. I hope they all had a wonderful day celebrating as they have worked so hard. Thank you parents for all your support throughout the preparation, it is very much appreciated. We will be having a celebration altogether in class and I will let you know the dates for the photographs! Well done Year 3!

St George’s Day!

By Mr R YOUSON22nd April 2016

The children were really excited about celebrating St George’s Day today. I think the highlight was definitely seeing the horse (and St George) but they also enjoyed making flags.

This week has been a busy week, we’ve continued with our Harry Potter work and today we had a debate about whether Harry should go to Hogwarts. The children came up with some really good points, it seems we have some professional arguers in Year 3! I was incredibly impressed with the wands they have made, thank you to all the parents for the help they have given. I am so pleased with how much the children are enjoying Harry Potter.

In maths we have been working on our multiplication, mainly looking at the written method of multiplication. We still need a bit of work but we’re getting there!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Fresh Term, Fresh Start!

By Mr R YOUSON15th April 2016

Welcome back! We hope you’ve all had a fabulous Easter- we’ve heard lots of egg-cellent holiday stories from the children! It’s the final stint until the summer holidays, our final term in Y5, so let’s make it amazing!

It has been lovely to see the children return fresh-faced and ready to learn and we have already packed so much work into this week! Hopefully we will continue in this positive light 🙂

A couple of important notices regarding our class timetable:

  • Ukelele is now on Thursday mornings instead of Monday
  • PE remains on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
  • Reading records are to be handed in each Monday morning
  • Homework is to be handed in on Wednesday and sent home on Friday

Next week, Miss Frearson will be publishing our class newsletter with all the important information regarding exciting events ahead and what we will be studying in each subject throughout the coming weeks. But for now……

This week in maths, we have been so engaged and enthusiastic when donning our thinking caps to be maths detectives. Here are some snaps of the children working in teams to problem solve:

We have moved on to a new text in literacy…War Horse! Already, we can’t wait to find out what the book entails as we explore the book.

Last term, the children were put into groups of 3 or 4 to plan prayer services. Unfortunately, we had so many Lent themed ones that we couldn’t fit them all in throughout the liturgical season. Therefore, this week we’ve been having daily prayer services in order to experience the pre-planned ones before moving onto services themed on the new liturgical season, Easter. It been, both, a privilege to witness such respectful, thoughtful class worships and also truly beneficial for the children to learn from the ideas of other groups and constructive criticism. This way, they can build on their own creations and open their minds to thinking in a more holy, reflective manner too.

Malcolm was very impressed with Y5’s ukulele lesson this week, we seem to be improving all the time- and we love it! The children have quite the musical repertoire under their belts and can’t wait to perform for St George’s Day Afternoon Tea event on Friday 22nd April (where, since we did such an amazing job at St Patrick’s coffee morning, we will once again be serving teas and coffees!). Prepare yourselves, as soon as you click play on this video clip below…you might just want to send your child to the National Youth Orchestra….

As the weather is brightening, we are eager to start using the new playground equipment. To ensure each child is given fair opportunity to use it, the school have devised a rotating rota based on house categories. Each Monday, the class deemed attendance winners the previous week will be given an extra day with the equipment- an excellent incentive to raise our attendance! Then, the remaining days of the week are allocated to each house. Football is also being placed on a rotating rota to ensure safety and fair breaktimes.

Well done on such a superb week Y5. Have a fantastic weekend and we can’t wait to see you on Monday. Keep practising those times tables and spellings!

Welcome back!

By Mr R YOUSON15th April 2016

Welcome back to the summer term! This year is going so fast! We’ve had a busy first week back starting our new topics. In literacy this term we are studying Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. So far the children are really enjoying it just as much as I do and are always keen to read it. If you would like to send a copy in to school I know Tesco are selling it for £3.85 or 2 for £7 if you want to buy more of the series. I’m aware quite a few of the children already have a copy with them in school.

In maths this week we have been learning strategies to help us with our mental maths. Our focus has been adding multiples/ near multiples of 10. We are continuing with our tables club this term so keep practising rapid recall of tables.

In art this week we have looked a the work of Henri Matisse and created our own version of cut out pictures using complimentary colours.

This week also saw some of our year 3 boys competing in a football tournament. They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and came 3rd overall. Well done boys!

The First Holy Communion meeting that was due to be 18th April has been postponed to the following Monday, 25th April. I hope that you can all still join us.

Lastly, Ms Croarken and myself would like to thank you for your support and attendance at the children’s Sacrament of Reconciliation, it was an important event for them and we were very proud of all the children.

Enjoy your weekend!

St George’s Day

By Mr R YOUSON14th April 2016

Dear Parents and Carers

Following feedback and several requests from parents, we are pleased to announce that All
Souls’ will be celebrating St George’s Day with an Afternoon Tea Event on
Friday 22nd April. This will take place in the school hall from 1.30 pm and your £2.50 entrance fee will get you tea, coffee & scones and entertainment from some of our talented musicians, performers and choir. There will also be a cake sale, a raffle and a visit from St George and his horse!

On the Friday children will be invited to wear red and white or to dress up in a traditional English costume (kings, queens, knights etc.) Even England Football and Rugby tops will be allowed (but not club kits!) Children can either bring in £1, a pack of cakes or a raffle prize donation to help us fund this event.

We really hope that this will become an annual celebration, but once again we are reliant on the generosity and support of our parents and families to make this happen. We also understand that this event comes hot on the heels of the St Patrick’s Day Coffee Morning, but as St George’s Day is traditionally celebrated at this time it would seem inappropriate to move the date and is therefore beyond our control!

We would really appreciate donations of cakes, scones, raffle prizes (bottles, unwanted gifts etc.) and any unwanted England flags, bunting or decorations12783545_464984157023733_4777513060647642018_o, which we would hope to be able to reuse again next year if this event is a success.

With many thanks for your continued support.

Swimming Gala

By Mr R YOUSON21st March 2016

This morning children from Years 4,5 and 6 took part in a swimming gala at Coventry Baths. They each swam in a singles race and then a team relay. Everyone tried their best and were determined to finish in as high a position as they could. We did manage to get a few medals along the way 3 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze. Well done everyone!
