This week we have learnt how to use question marks by asking some questions to Paddington that we would like to know the answers to. Some of the best questions included:

• How long did it take you to get to get to London from Peru?
• Would you eat anything else in your sandwich?
• What is it like living with the Browns?
• Is it cold in London?
• Why are you always getting into trouble?

We then put our new skill of writing questions to good use as we worked in groups to plan a postcard that we are going to send to Aunt Lucy from Paddington. The children worked really well and I can’t wait to see how they get on with writing the postcards next week.

We have been following Liberty Bear’s adventures around the globe and have been comparing different landmarks in the different countries. We have looked at how these landmarks are different depending on the country they are in and have worked on identifying these different countries on our class map.

For each stop we have developed our skills of teamwork and construction to try and build our own replica landmarks and we think they look brilliant! See if you can identify any famous landmarks, or get your children to help you.

We have been working hard on our art skills these past 2 weeks. We have made tree collages using real leaves that have fallen in our school grounds; we used glue and created autumnal artwork using bare tree templates.

We have also been working on our printing skills using our hands and sponges to create pattern artwork and some autumn leaves of our own. Again, we used our school environment to collect inspiration for our leaves looking at the different colours and selecting these to create beautiful pieces of art.

We have continued to love our time in the Forest School. This last week the children have been left various messages from the ‘little people’. They had to start by finding a code to unlock a padlock. Inside this was a special message asking the children to make them some suitable shelters to live inside. The children were very excited and got to work straight away building shelters to protect them from the rain and wind.

They then received a second message that explained they now needed access to food and asking if we could come up with some recipes and meals they could eat. The children had fantastic ideas! From stick soup to three leaf salad the little people have had more choices than local restaurants. The children love their time in the forest school and it is really helping to build their imagination and independence.

We have also had a go at designing our own mud kitchen and can’t wait to continue this after half term.

Last week we celebrated Harvest and what a wonderful day it was! The Year One children arrived in beautiful colours all carrying donations of plenty for our local food bank. We shared in a prayer service together, led by the children, where we thanked God for his Harvest and wonderful creation.

The children thought of all the things that God has given us that they are grateful for and wrote these down as an offering of thanks to God.

We showed the children where their food donations were going and we prayed for all those without food.

Year One have been working hard on their maths. We have been focusing on our basic number skills. The last week we have been working on finding one more and one less from numbers up to 20 and matching numerals to their words.

The children have taken part in many different activities and have worked really hard to succeed. The children have begun to challenge themselves more in maths and they are growing in confidence.

Using physical objects to support, the children are now moving on to look at adding and subtracting one digit numbers with the goal of moving to adding one digit numbers to two digit numbers.
