Our Christmas cards and letters have been written ready to send to 6 of our local care homes. We are hoping to put together a little hamper for each care home to give them a special gift and hopefully bring a smile to a face or two but we need your help to do that.

Whether it is a box of mince pies, packet of biscuits, some chocolate treats, shower gel or other toiletries, anything you can donate would be gratefully received to send to these care homes.

Please send any donations in with your children on Friday (11th December) so we can deliver them to the care homes in time for Christmas.

This morning we arrived to a very special letter and visitor in Year One. We found a letter sent from the North Pole with a bit of a crisis, some of the Christmas letters had been lost and Santa would like us to write some more and send them back with his special elf Noel.

He also sent some instructions on getting our classroom decorated especially our tree… In the afternoon, the children had free reign on decorating our class tree and we think they did a brilliant job. They worked together, untangled beads, helped each other hang the decorations and encouraged one another well. Have a look at our photos below.

What a wonderful day to celebrate the beginning of Advent!

Year One started the morning by joining with the rest of the school for assembly and then went on an adventure to find evergreen, holly and different foliage for our wreath. We discussed using green as a sign of new life and evergreen to show Jesus’ love for us never ends. We went to visit the Prayer Garden at our Church and collected lots of items for our wreath. Thank you Father Paul.

We made the wreath together as a class and took one down to Mrs Cannon and Mrs Rae to make sure they all had a reminder of Advent down in the office space. We were also lucky enough to have our own class prayer service with Fr Paul! He came to us live in the classroom and shared the gospel focus for the first week of Advent with us as well as taught us a little more about the wreath. We really enjoyed having our priest visit our classroom (even if it was a little different).

A great start and focus on the true meaning of this special time of year.

Today we celebrated Children in Need, we wore our costumes, bright colours, pjs and lovely clothes to fundraise some money for children in our national community who need a bit of support.

We found out why we give money and celebrate Children in Need and looked at some of the reasons why children might need a bit of extra help. We said some special prayers for these children and families that need God’s help and strength at the moment.

We spent the last part of our afternoon doing some Pudsey themed activities and it was a lovely end to a very busy week!

This Wednesday, in Year One, we remembered and commemorated the soldiers who never came home. We discussed why we wear poppies and joined together in a prayer service to reflect on the sacrifice of these people. As part of our prayer service we offered up our poppies to remember the service men, women, animals, nurses, children and many others who gave up their tomorrows for our todays.

We then went outside at 11am to stand in 2 minutes of silence in memory of all who died. The children were respectful and stayed silent the whole time. When we were walking back into the classroom one of the children said, “that was one of the most beautiful things ever!” We would have to agree, the whole school commemorated such a special day in a reverent, respectful and thoughtful way. It was a very humbling moment.

This week we took to our outdoor area on the hunt for BEARS! We took inspiration from the book ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ and acted out the story by following the journey of the characters. The children joined in really well and could respond to the familiar lines from the story. We all got very excited!

As we moved around we found bear paw prints, a store of food that we thought the bears might be collecting and when we got closer to the end of a story we even thought we might have seen a bear through our fence! Our favourite part was creating a ‘leaf storm’ and splashing through the ‘river’.
