Spooks, Diwali and Fireworks!

By Sarah Scofield5th November 2021

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the new half term. We have had a very busy first week back. Monday was dressing up day – there were some very scary children in Nursery that day! This week we have also been learning about Diwali, we made rangoli patterns with coloured rice, mandalas with playdough, pasta and seeds and Diwali cards as well as firework pictures. The children have also been recognising ‘S’ and the sound it makes at the beginning of words. Our phoneme next week is ‘a’. Because it is bonfire night tonight we will be carrying on with this theme next week – making model rockets etc. The children have loved looking after Ben and Hoola Hoop the school guinea pigs this week – they showed great care, being gentle and making sure they had plenty of food and water. We still haven’t made our pumpkin soup but my big pan and all the ingredients are here for Monday!  Have a good weekend and keep safe!

Smashing Pumpkins

By Sarah Scofield22nd October 2021

Hello Everyone,

Well we have come to the end of our first half term and I think everyone is ready for a good rest. We have really enjoyed getting to know you and the children – they have settled into Nursery so well. We have had fun getting our hands dirty this week, planting daffodil and tulip bulbs ready for the Spring. Our focus book has been ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and as well as looking at different pumpkins, we have done a fine motor skills activity hammering matchsticks into a pumpkin which the children loved and we decorated pumpkin biscuits which we ate very messily at snack time – apologies for any black tongues the children may have! We didn’t actually get to make any pumpkin soup, but we will do this when we come back after half term.

On our first day back after the half term break the school is having a ‘Spooky Day’ so the children can come to Nursery dressed up or they can come in non-school uniform. To fit in with this theme, our focus book has just got to be ‘Room on the Broom’. The letter sound we will be learning is ‘S’ and we will also be thinking about Diwali and Bonfire Night. Have a good half term break and keep warm!

Wellie Walking

By Sarah Scofield8th October 2021

Hello Everyone,

We had a great time on our wellie/Creation walk on Thursday, looking for all the wonderful things that God created. Today we made pictures and patterns with the natural objects we found. It was just lovely to let the children go and explore our school area – we found lots of things including two fox holes and a badger set although the foxes and badgers were in hiding. If you go on any walks to the park or woods this weekend, it would be great if you could bring any conkers, acorns, Autumn leaves or objects of interest for us to use in Nursery. Also for next week could you send in a baby photo of your child which we will photo copy to use to talk about how they have grown and changed. This week we have also been exploring circles. Next week we will be learning about triangles.Happy birthday to Rose and Darcy who have both celebrated their birthday this week. Have a great weekend everyone.

Going Green

By Sarah Scofield1st October 2021

Hello Everyone,

The children looked wonderful this morning decked out in green and thank you for all of your donations of money/food  for CAFOD. The children all looked very smart for their photographs on Thursday and they coped with the situation very well, striking their best poses. We have been very impressed with how well the children have learnt and then performed their Nursery rhymes for each other. To fit in with the weather this week, our Nursery rhyme next week will be Incy Wincy Spider. This week we have also begun learning to recognise our names without our pictures and as well as counting forward to 10, we are also learning to count backwards from 5 using our class number line and on our fingers. If you think one of your child’s feet look a bit dirty at bath time, we haven’t been walking bare foot in mud! We painted one of our feet to make a brown footprint for our reindeer Christmas cards which have to be sent off on Monday, ready to be printed in time for Christmas – you will be able to purchase these in time for Christmas. We also make our own Christmas cards in Nursery to send home. For our Christmas trip we were going to see The Very Hungry Caterpillar at The Warwick Arts Centre but we have now changed this to Ash End Farm to see the animals and Santa’s Grotto, on  Monday 6th December. Sorry to mention Christmas so early! Have a good weekend everyone and try to stay dry!

24.9.21

By Sarah Scofield24th September 2021

Hello Everyone,

We have had another great week in Nursery – the children have really settled into our Nursery routine and we are getting to learn each other’s names and make new friends. The weather continues to be  kind to us so we have made the most of spending time outside – the bubble wands in particular have been a big hit this week.

Next Thursday (30th Sep) is school photos day when the children will have their individual photo taken, so make sure the children are looking super smart that day! On Friday (1st Oct) it is ‘Go Green For Cafod’ so the children need to come to school dressed in green and bring in £1(per family) and tinned or dried food items. Our Nursery rhyme for next week will be ‘Diddle, Diddle Dumpling’, which we will send out on Monday.

In the next couple of weeks we will be planting Spring bulbs and bedding plants so any donations of these you would like to send in, would very gratefully be recieved. If any of you have old rolls of wallpaper you no longer need these would be great to use for mark making activities in Nursery. We would also like you to collect any plastic bottle tops and cardboard tubes from kitchen paper rolls etc (no loo rolls please!) which we could use for counting/creative/construction activities. Now we are officially in Autumn and the weather is set to get colder and those sniffles begin to appear we would also be grateful of any boxes of tissues we could use. Thank you and have a good weekend.

By Sarah Scofield17th September 2021

Hello Everyone,

The children have had a brilliant week and because they have settled in so well, we keep on forgetting that this has only been their first full week in Nursery – so well done children! This week the children have been put into their key worker groups, so if they are a snappy crocodile they are in Mrs McCloskey’s group and if they are a jumpy kangaroo they are with Mrs Schofield. We usually split into groups for P.E, story time, phonics/listening activities and games. The children have also been shown how to self register this week, by finding their name label when they first come in and sticking it to our name tree. On Tuesday the children loved their first P.E lesson with Miss Jade in our school hall. Every Monday the children will be given a new nursery rhyme to keep at home – we encourage the children to learn the rhyme off by heart along with the actions so they can perform it to each other at Nursery. Next week we will continue to look at our All About Me posters and talk about our families. If you haven’t already done so could you complete the media consent form on our website so I know which photos I can post of the children. Have a lovely weekend and lets hope the sunshine lasts!

New Beginnings

By Sarah Scofield10th September 2021

Hello Everyone,

What a fantastic week we’ve had in our Nursery! We have loved meeting all of our new children and families and I have to say, they have been absolute superstars. This week has been spent getting to know each other, settling the children so they feel safe, comfortable and happy and getting used to our rules and routines. Lots of time has been spent outside because of the beautiful weather we are having at the moment – the children have particularly enjoyed the mud kitchen, water and sand activities, the diggers and mud, dressing up and role-play. During the next couple of weeks we will continue to get to know the children, talk about their ‘All About Me’ posters and find out about the children’s interests which will help us to plan future activities. The adults in Nursery will also be assessing the children to find out the children’s starting points and I will also be carrying out a speech and language asessment , called ‘Wellcomm’ which all Early Years settings are required to do, and of course we will be having lots of fun! Starting from this Tuesday, we are very lucky to have Miss Jade  coming into school  to do P.E with the children so don’t forget to have your children  ready dressed and raring to go. Every week I will place a Teddy Bear money pot outside our Nursery door – this is for you to pop in a £1 donation which goes towards things such as cooking ingredients and compost for planting etc. We usually post photographs of the children on our Friday blog but we need to wait for everyone to fill in the data protection forms on the school website ,so we know whose photo we can put on, or not, so if you could fill these out as soon as possible, this would be greatly appreciated.  Finally, we have six September birthdays in Nursery so A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Grace, Rabia, Layla and Rose A who had their birthdays in the first week of September, Lily who had her birthday yesterday and Isabelle who celebrates her birthday tomorrow. Have a good weekend everyone and try to stay dry!

A fond farewell

By Sarah Scofield20th July 2021

Hello Everyone,

I can’t believe we’ve come to the end of yet another year. Myself and Mrs McCloskey would like to say a big thank you for all of your support and we often say to each other we have one of the best jobs in the world because we are lucky enough to come in every day and work with such wonderful children. Thank you so much for all of your kind words, cards and presents – we really do appreciate them. Mrs McCloskey will be working with the children next year in the afternoons in Reception class and I am just next door to say ‘hello’. We hope you have a lovely Summer – have fun and stay safe!

I do, I do, I do

Hello Everyone,

Miss Jade popped in this week to say goodbye to the children and to recieve flowers and a card from the Nursery children to say thank you for their amazing P.E lessons this year – luckily the children will continue to have P.E lessons with Miss Jade next year in Reception class. The children were so excited on Wednesday to finally dig up our potatoes and we had quite a bumper crop. The potatoes and some of the broad  beans which we grew, were cooked and used in a potato salad for our wedding feast. Finally to the main event of the week  – our Nursery wedding, and as Bobby so aptly walked in this morning, saying “What a beautiful day for a wedding!”  We had great fun this morning – the children looked wonderful and they really rose to the occaision, taking their roles very seriously. Congratulations to the bride and groom, Matilda and Leo! Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!

Hello Everyone,

Well we just had to make England flags this week and the children have really enjoyed getting into the football spirit – I think there may be a few tired children/parents on Monday morning! This week we have also been doing lots of rhyming activities and phonics, counting out objects to match numbers and small group games. Our potatoes and beans will be ready to harvest next week so we will cook and eat them as part of our wedding/ end of term celebrations next Friday. Remember to come to Nursery in your best/party clothes next Friday! Happy birthday to Bobby whose birthday is on Sunday! Have a good week end everyone and fingers crossed!
