Year 2 were up to the challenge this morning and set about making a net to produce a cube. It was tricky but they didn’t give up. They worked in pairs and Ethan and Jamie were the first to design a net that made a cube. Well done to them. The children all then used a net to make a dice. Reception staff really enjoyed working with the children. It was a fun morning for all.
We had a lovely morning at the Transport Museum looking at the wonderful things made in Coventry. The children were all very well behaved and really enjoyed the visit. The world’s fastest car was the most popular exhibit.

This week we looked at how we make pancakes. In literacy we wrote the list of ingredients and instructions of how we make pancakes. Unfortunately Mrs Jilks didn’t follow them correctly and made the oil too hot. This set off the fire alarms and we had a trip to the top of the playground. It was all good practise!
In mathematics we have been working on the language of time. We were so good we went on to looking at o’clock and half past on the clock face.
We went to church with our prayer friends on Ash Wednesday and were really well behaved during the service. Well done to all.
Thursday we all dressed up for book week and completed fun activities around books.
We ended the week looking at different types of technology and talking about what we use them for.
Reception looked fantastic in their favourite book character costumes. Thank you for supporting us in this.
This week we have been making the most of the sunshine and took our learning outdoors. We have a garage and car showroom and lots of activities to support our mark making and mathematic skills. In the classroom we have now got a theatre in the role play area. Some photographs of the week are below. We will be taking part in World Book Day along with the rest of the school. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. Staff will also be dressing up for the day. We will be judging a rock painting competition to see which rock has the best representation of a favourite story and a prize will be given to the best in each class. Please send the rocks into school on Wednesday or Thursday morning.
On Friday your child will have brought home a list of new tricky words. Please would you help your child to read and practise spelling them, this really helps with their independent writing.
Reception have been learning a new dance in their weekly dance lesson. Attached are some clips of the session. Have a great half term.
We celebrated Chinese New Year in lots of different ways. We listened to instructions and made a Chinese drum, tasted Chinese food, listened to the story of how the years were named and watched a film about how a family celebrated. Below are some photos of our week.
In mathematics we have been looking at the pattern in numbers. The children were able to place the number where it should go following the number pattern of adding ten.
We have also been learning how to work together to complete an activity. We were very proud when we achieved our aim.
This week we have been looking closely at the coins we use. The children have sorted them by colour and shape. They have coloured the coins, counted the coins and used them in their role play. One Friday they used the coins to ‘buy’ an end of day treat! We have also been matching the letters of the alphabet by name and phoneme. The children are good at naming phonemes but are not so confident when the naming the letters of the alphabet, this is an area we are still working on and would love your support with this at home. In our handwriting sessions we have been practising writing c, o and g and also writing numbers. Below are some photographs of the week.
This week we have been finding out all about making healthy choices. We made healthy dinner plates and choose a healthy selection of food groups to make a lunchbox. Our literacy this week was labeling our choice of foods and we are very pleased with how well the children are getting at sounding out words to write. On Friday we had tried some of the healthy food choices we had talked about during the week. Mathematics this week was subtraction. The children have been practically subtracting and some of them have also completed subtraction worksheets. We have been practising our handwriting skills, baptising a baby in RE, sharing a prayer service with Year 6, learning new words and listening to stories without pictures or props. We found some ice outside and decided to complete an experiment to see how long it took to melt. Sophie guessed that it would take about half an hour in the heat of the classroom. As you can see in the photograph below she was right!
This week we also had a visit from the school nurse who told us how we needed to wash our hands to keep us germ free.
We have explored texture, using words to describe how objects free and using our hands to feel objects we cannot see. We also made texture pictures.
We have been recognising and ordering numbers to 20 and also learning about rhyme and rhyming strings. It was a busy week for all!
