Year 2 home learning

By Lucy Clarke21st June 2020

A huge thank you and well done to the boys who sent their work to me this week! Joseph has written me a letter about his half term, learnt about Pentecost, completed his spellings and maths work and created a fact file on Mary Seacole.

JJ has answered his reading questions, written a newspaper report about a wishing well, learnt about communities and finished some maths work!

Nicholas has completed some maths work, sent me a picture of his plant which is growing (well done!!) and sorted some materials. This is only some of the things he sent me- Well done!

Lovely to hear from you all again.

*Year 6 – Home Learning – Week 10!*

By Mrs J Hartwell17th June 2020

WEEK 10!

It’s hard to believe we are now in our 10th week of home learning! The work coming in is still as beautiful and carefully thought through as it was in the beginning. Keep it up, Year 6! 🙂

Hannah has been busy working her way through finding the area of different shapes. She is also trying out her new sewing machine for her RE work about charities – watch this space!

Find out more about her chosen charity here and also find out what she thought of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix here.

Niamh has also been caclulating her way through the area of shapes and practising her handwriting showing off her cursive style and some bubble writing:

She has been working her way through the activities in our transition booklet:

…. and making her very own animal book marks:

She has also completed her charity poster here and film review of Daddy Day Care here!

Rebecca has been practising her origami skills and has made herself a new pet mouse to keep the page in her book:

She loved it so much, she made her very own animal collection (I’m sure you’ll agree they look fab!):

Ethan has enjoyed finding the area of parallelograms and compound shapes. He aslo created his very own bookmarks too:

William has chosen Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group as his charity and has already been supporting a Special Named Fund at CCLG called Pass the Smile. He and his brother took to the streets to sell home-made lemonade to raise money in his name. They raised £100! Well done William and Alex!

He has also been working his way through this week’s tasks:

Molly enjoyed a socially distanced meet up with Erin O this week and enjoyed a yummy bbq! She made sure she had all of her work done first though – I’m sure that was the perfect motivation needed:

Here is a selection of Dhilan’s work from the week:

Year 2 Home Learning

By Lucy Clarke15th June 2020

It was lovely to hear from JJ and Bartosz this week. I was really impressed with JJ’s story which is below. The phrase ‘stopped in horror’, his use of short sentences for effect and the ending all blew me away. Well done!

I really liked Bartosz’s list of how the Holy Spirit helps different people at school too. Well done boys, keep it up!

Ninth Week of Home Learning for Year Four

14th June 2020Ella Hands

Year 4 begins every week with a class Zoom call. This week, the children were invited to share one of their talents with the rest of the class. We were lucky enough to see an array of talents on display – golfing, gymnastics, singing, dancing, magic tricks, piano and guitar playing. For all involved, this was a very enjoyable way to start the week.

Some of the children in the class have had a very productive week. Olivier retold the story of Pentecost, focusing on how the disciples felt before and after receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. Also, he practised spelling words for the weekly spelling test and wrote an acrostic poem on Coronavirus. Well done, Olivier!

Olivia tried hard to use her neatest handwriting to write out the prayer ‘Come Holy Spirit’ which she then decorated beautifully. Also, she wrote a Kennings poem based on one member of staff. Can you guess who Olivia has described?

Lily has worked hard. Like Olivia, she wrote a Kennings poem. Also, she answered comprehension questions and she practised spelling words for the weekly spelling test, which she scored full marks on yet again. Good girl, Lily!

Roman created a word search containing various scientific words and, in handwriting, he practised certain letter joins. Like Lily, he scored full marks on the weekly spelling test. Well done, Roman!

Jackson thoroughly enjoyed drawing a picture of an eye. I think his drawing is very realistic.

As always, Ffion worked hard this week. I especially enjoyed reading the piece of writing that she did for the ‘100 Word Challenge’. She definitely left me wanting to read more! Also, Ffion researched the life of St. Cecilia and, in reading, she answered comprehension questions. She enjoyed planning a cycle route around her local area which she then followed on her bike. Good Girl, Ffion!

Alicja continued to work extremely well. In grammar and punctuation, she used articles and determiners and, in reading, she answered comprehension questions. In R.E., she researched the life of a saint and, in maths, she ordered and compared numbers. Keep up the great effort, Alicja!

Lottie enjoyed discovering that the small intestine is actually longer than the large intestine. Using a hose pipe, she measured out the length of the small intestine and the large intestine.

James Clancy has worked hard. All of his written tasks are well-presented and completed to a high standard. Also, he enjoyed helping his brother, Joseph, create a volcano – they look quite the scientists! Well done, James!

*Year One* Home Learning

By Miss R Corkerry11th June 2020

A huge thank you to those who continue to send work in, it is wonderful to see how well the children are getting on at home. Last week, the children were tasked with writing their own traditional tale. I have been sent some and they are fantastic!

Abbie worked really hard on her writing and not only has worked on her handwriting but also spent lots of time planning her story to think about what journey she wanted her story to go on. Well done Abbie!

Alannah once again blew me away with her fantastic art skills. She continues to look at the work of different artists and uses this as inspiration to create her own pieces. This week the Year One children were focusing on landscapes and Alannah looked at the work of Hockney and used this to create her own piece. She is a brilliant artist and I love seeing her different creative pursuits. Well done Alannah!

Emily worked very hard on her traditional tale. She created her own version of the story of Little Red Riding Hood. She introduced an Evil Queen and a Prince to the story. Beautiful writing and some great ideas, well done Emily!

Phoebe has been as busy as ever! She has exercised everyday both on her trampoline and going for long walks (when the weather was a bit nicer). She planted some sunflower seeds and has looked after them so well they are ready to be potted in their own plant pots as they continue to grow. She has also been working hard on her writing and has used her brilliant ideas to write her own traditional tale about a Princess called Jasmine and a witch called Agatha. Phoebe has made fantastic progress in her phonics and continues to complete daily activities to learn and practise new sounds. Well done Phoebe!

Veronica has been working hard on her maths this week. She has focused on time and solving problems relating to this. She has continued to try really hard and has succeeded! Keep up the good work Veronica, Well done!

Grace has once again worked incredibly hard to complete her home learning. She has given all curriculum areas a go and continues to achieve. You can see from the sheer number of photos that she has gone above and beyond the expectations. Have a look at all of the different things she got up to. She even spotted my mistakes in some of the code breaker tasks and wrote her own number problems to solve and make the code right! Well done Grace!

By Mrs J Hartwell10th June 2020

Year 6 are keeping themselves busy during this drizzly week by working their way through this week’s home learning tasks. Here’s what they’ve been up to:

Ethan has been as busy as ever with his Maths, Reading, Handwriting, Origami and RE – I particularly loved his artwork to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi:

Rebecca loved the origami so much she did a variety of styles and sizes and even made some notes to go inside them:

She has also really impressed me with her book review of our last class read, ‘Can you see me?’:

Hannah found the origami envelop a challenge but got there in the end:

Here is her fantastic book review of Can you see me?:

After asking for some recommendations of good reads, Isla has been busy on Amazon by the looks of things! Happy reading Isla!

Erin E has been capturing some of God’s natural creations as she has been taking some gorgeous shots of some of her favourite flowers – a future photographer in the making I think!

Eighth Week of Home Learning For Year Four

By Ella Hands6th June 2020

Some of the pupils in Year 4 have started the final half-term of this academic year well.

Patrick has written a ‘Lockdown’ acrostic poem. He has used his neatest handwriting and presented it very well. The lines of his poem will ring true with many of us! well done, Patrick.

As always, Lily has been working hard. In maths, she has been reading and writing Roman numerals and, in English, she has been accurately answering comprehension questions. Lily has continued to score full marks in the weekly spelling test and she has been practising certain letter joins in handwriting. Good girl, Lily!

Roman has been applying himself well. It is pleasing to see that he too is scoring full marks in the spelling test and it is good to see the improvement in his handwriting. Keep up the great effort, Roman!

Alicja has continued to work incredibly well, ensuring that she has completed all tasks set. I particularly enjoyed reading your ‘Thank You NHS’ acrostic poem, Alicja.

*Year 6 – Home Learning – Week 8*

By Mrs J Hartwell5th June 2020

More stunning work has been coming through from Year 6 this week and we even ended it with a Zoom talent show where everyone had the opportunity to share their lockdown talent with us! We had a wonderful display of activities including art, piano playing, drawing, sport, Spanish, French, gymnastics, Irish dancing, timestables practice and photography! What a wonderful end to the week 🙂

Ethan has been busy reflecting shapes and practising his beautiful handwriting:

He also celebrated Pentecost this week by making a birthday card to the Church and creating a teaching poster all about this special feast:

He finished the ending the ‘Francis’ which you can read here

… and researched more information on three of his chosen wars:

Rebecca has been working hard on her creative writing with this fabulously spine-chilling continuation of ‘Francis’:

Hannah has been busy baking, experimenting in Science, practising her handwriting, creating suspense and completing her work on Pentecost:

Here is Roisin’s creative writing

Molly’s work:

And a selection of Niamh’s work this week:

Julian has been continuing to work hard over the last couple of weeks. Your pencil control is amazing and I love the bridge you made. Julian has also found a new love of football and riding his scooter – brilliant!

Amie has had a very busy couple of weeks – if you keep on cooking like this Amie, you’ll soon be on Master Chef! I love the time and care you have taken over your name and making 2D shapes , and your bridge for the Gingerbread to cross over is amazing –  keep up the good work!

*Year One* Home Learning – W/B 18th May 2020

21st May 2020Miss R Corkerry

Another week of fantastic learning from Year One. I am so proud of all you have achieved and really enjoy reading your emails and looking at your photos.

George has had another busy week. He has been working on his RE, Design Technology, geography, reading comprehension and continuing his fantastic building of Lego. I loved his prayer and his fantastic story below! Please have a read. Well done George!

Phoebe has had another busy week and has worked really hard on the tricky concept of time. Phoebe sped through the work after it ‘clicked’ and is looking forward to receiving her own clock! Phoebe has also been working hard on her writing and has written some promises that she is going to try and keep after reading the story of Jesus promising his disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to them.

We also send huge birthday wishes to Phoebe who celebrated her birthday earlier in the week! Hope you had a wonderful day!
Well done Phoebe!

It was lovely to receive an email from Tai this week showing how well he has been getting on with the concept of time. He enjoyed watching the videos and has flown through his maths work. He also wrote me a letter as his writing task this week and it is lovely to see how well he is getting on with his handwriting. In his letter he said he is missing his friends at school and asked if I was missing them too. I really am missing you all Tai and hope to see you all soon! In his letter he also explains that he is making an Optimus Prime suit that transforms into a car! Once again, showing his fantastic imagination and creativity. Keep it up Tai!

Veronica sent in more of her maths work. She continues to work hard in maths and has answered some quite tricky word problems for measurement using her own strategies for addition, including column addition. She has also had a go at reading some scales for measuring volume and mass, despite the computer moving all the boxes around! Well done Veronica!

Another week of hard work for Grace. She has focused particularly on maths and has challenged herself to complete some of the more tricky elements of time such as word problems and working out hours less, hours more and reading the time to o’clock and half past. Having learnt about the promise Jesus made and Pentecost in RE, Grace wrote an invitation for a Pentecost party! I’d love to join especially as there promises to be singing and dancing! I also loved seeing Grace’s fruity art! She made a fantastic owl using many different fruits. Fantastic! Well done!
