Today Year 4 have thought about our use of the internet and considered which sites and apps are suitable to use at our age. We’ve challenged ourselves to make an A to Z of internet sites, apps, celebrities and games. How many can you do? Can you get all the letters?
This past week, Year 4 have tried out using wax pastels for the first time. We were very surprised how differently they act than the paint or pencils we’re used to.
After trying out some different techniques, we put them all together to make some delicious looking fruit – which would you like to eat?
In Science today, Year 4 have investigated what temperature chocolate starts to change state by melting from a solid into a liquid. We also discovered we have a whole range of hand temperatures among our children, with some very different results after holding chocolate for five minutes:
We’ve started our season of Advent with plenty of preparation focused around “hope”.
In creating our Advent wreath, we hope to reflect daily on God’s unending love for us.
Later in the week, Year 4 were joined by parents and members of our families for an Advent workshop. A massive thank you for so many for attending and making it a fabulous start to the season for all the children. After making our Nativity scenes from natural materials, I hope our children can use them to help tell the Nativity story for many years to come.
Year 4 started off this week with a visit to Earlsdon Library to find and take out exciting new book, while also sporting Hats on 4 Mental Health for World Mental Health Day.
We’ve also been lucky to receive some fantastic new Bibles to use during RE lessons and shared prayers – a big thank you to All Souls Church and Father Paul for buying these!
Finally, Year 4 worked hard to locate the perfect leaf for an observational drawing in Art.

In P.E this week the children in Years 3 and 4 were learning how to serve underarm. They used previous knowledge of the volley shot from last week to help them play the shot correctly.
After, we set up nets across the playground for them to take part in matches. Next week is our final tennis lesson so we will be having a year group competition to see who will be the king/queen of the court.

As a school, we will be raising money for the charity ‘Mind’ this Monday 10th October as part of World Mental Health day 2022. Children may come to school wearing a hat of any kind in return for a donation to ‘Mind’.
Year 4 have been hard at work over the past week working on some fabulous stories based on the Borrowers, a classic piece of British fiction.
Written by Mary Norton in 1952, this book introduces us to Arietty – a tiny ‘Borrower’, who takes items she needs to survive from the larger human ‘beans’ who live upstairs. We’ve taken Arietty into our Year 4 classroom and written about what she might borrow from our surroundings.
The children worked brilliantly to plan, draft and publish pieces of great writing. They’ve shared these stories with each other:

By reading and orienteering maps correctly, we have located hidden tags around the playground in PE.
In music, Mrs Cooke has been helping us to learn the different eras of composed music and their matching instruments. This has resulted in some very interesting looking miming action!
Finally, this Friday children have brightened up for the celebration of harvest mass. Thank you to all families for your contributions.
