Year 4 became different states of matter today. After learning about their properties, they showed us what they’re made of! Can you guess which group are solid, liquid and gas?

Thank you to Severn Trent Water who came into school to deliver a fabulous thought-provoking assembly this morning for us! We learnt all about the importance of water, considered how much we waste and were inspired with ways in which we could save water.
We have all made promises to save water in our own homes so please join us in using water more wisely!

Year 4 are learning lots of names of delicious fruit! Ask them what their favourite fruit is!
It has been another busy week in the wonderful world of Year 4.
As always, we all loved our ukulele lesson with Mr Evans in which we learnt a new chord and tune that allowed us to play twinkle, twinkle, the alphabet song and even create our own words to sing along too!
We continued cracking fractions in maths this week, working out how to calculate fractions of amounts. Ask them what 2/3 of 27 is or 5/8 of 56… prepare to be as amazed as I was with their super skills!
We delved further into the world of Narnia as we helped to make C.S.Lewis’s setting description a little more WOW before describing a fantasy setting of our own.. cue the unicorns, rainbows and skittles falling from the sky! But more importantly, see if you can spot the adventurous figurative language they crafted…
On Tuesday, we had our first whole school Mass of the year – it was lovely to see so many of you there! A special ‘Well Done!’ to Emily C, Isla and Bridget who all read their bidding prayers beautifully and were shining examples to the rest of the school.
This week, two groups of Year 4 led two separate prayer services to Year 5 based on the themes of sadness and love. Both prayer services were planned well and delivered with reverence to share their important messages.

On Thursday, we had some visitors who came in to talk to us about UNICEF. We learnt about who they are as a charity and what they do. We considered the impact of climate change on all of us and discussed how we can all help!
We ended the week with a whole school chat with different subject leaders to listen to the children’s voices and try to make All Souls an even better place to learn and have fun! Thank you so much to all of the children for being so confident and forthcoming with their opinions and ideas.
Everyone should have received a copy of our class newsletter today. As always, should you have anything you wish to discuss further, please do not hesitate to come and see me.
Thank you for another fabulous week, Year 4. Have a lovely weekend!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a very happy start to the New Year. Thank you all for the cards and very generous gifts; they were all very much appreciated.
We have had such a fun, fabulous and positive start back to Year 4 this week with 100% attendance too – well done!
We have started our new text, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, in Literacy after writing our own biographies about the fantastic author, C.S.Lewis. We are all very excited to get stuck into the world of Narnia and join Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund on their journey!

In Maths, we have been talking pizzas, chocolate bars and birthday cakes as we began our unit on fractions. All of the children have amazed me with how well they have persevered and progressed with this already!
A huge well done to all of the children who went to our first swimming lesson on Tuesday – you were all fabulous! And to the children in the choir, once again, another spectacular performance at the Young Voices concert.

We also kick-started our week back with a ukulele lesson in which we learnt a new chord and a new song all about a bumble bee, introduced our new History topic of The Stone Age to the Iron Age with our classroom timeline and learnt the names of the Continents in Geography with a very catchy song!
Please remember that this term PE is now on Mondays so children will need indoor kits and swimming on Tuesdays so children will need a swimming costume/shorts and a towel. All jewellery must be removed and all hair tied back.
Thank you all so much for coming to our Open Book evening. It was so rewarding to watch the children share their learning with you, talk you through their books and show you around our classroom environment – they were so proud, as I am, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Have a lovely weekend! 🙂
It’s Chriiiisstttmaaasss!
Using their excellent water colour skills, Year 4 created their very own special Christmas cards to remind us the real reason behind the celebrations during this time of year.
We really enjoyed making them and were all very pleased with how they turned out.
We hope you enjoyed receiving them!

As a Christmas treat, they were all given a special bauble for them to paint and decorate to take home and hang on their tree.

We had such a lovely day together in our pyjamas and ending it with a cosy film and lots of goodies to share!

Year 4 have had a wonderful first term – I am so very proud of them and excited to see what the Spring Term holds!
Thank you for all of your support throughout the year so far, and for your generous cards, gifts, and words of thanks. I look forward to seeing some of you at the Christmas Eve Mass.
Merry Christmas and very Happy New Year to you all.
Mrs Hartwell
To conclude their Science topic of Sound and complete their Design Technology unit, Year 4 were set with the tricky task of designing and making their very own musical instruments and WOW, did they surprise us!
It all began with this, a piece of plain paper, a pencil and some imagination….
… and evolved with some teamwork, patience and perseverance…
… before ending with a demonstration of our fabulous musical instruments and smiles all round!
Again, thank you for your kind donations and continued support!
Wow! Year 4 have totally amazed me with their creativity and artistic skills this week as they have continued, with patience and perseverance, to build on their final Still Life piece to produce this wonderful display!
Today, Year 4 began sketching their still life pictures, really focusing on their size and spatial distribution of objects. They were really focused and produced a good outline of their overall image.
After much nagging, I was persuaded to let them start painting their foreground objects using watercolours. The children really impressed me with showing off how much they’d learnt about shading and toning this half term, in addition to their colour mixing skills.
