Year 6’s homework for the half-term can be found on the Year 6 blog page.
Year 6 Half-Term Homework
The half-term homework is for children to produce two pieces of writing. These can be handwritten or typed up and printed off (or emailed to me at [email protected]).
The children are familiar with a list of different writing elements/features (a copy of this list can be downloaded here). It is important that they aim to include as many of these as they can in their writing. However, not all of these will be relevant to both pieces of writing.
Task 1
Write a formal letter to their secondary school. This should be laid out in the correct formal format and can include an introduction of who they are, what they are looking forward to about secondary school and any questions they may have.
An annotated example can be downloaded here.
Task 2
Write a set of instructions for a task of their choice. For example: how to operate a piece of computer software, how to play their favourite game, how to make their favourite recipe, how to play a musical instrument.
An annotated example can be downloaded here.
Work should be handed in or emailed to me by the second day back after half-term.
Year 6 – Belgrade Theatre and Vocations Mass (Thursday 24th May)
Thursday 24th May will be a busy day for Year 6 that will involve fancy dress at school, a trip to the Belgrade Theatre (for most children), the Football/Netball Rally (for some children) and ending with the Vocations Mass at St Patrick’s Church.
Children are invited to come to school wearing pyjamas to raise money for Cancer Research. However, it is very important that they bring their full school uniform to change into for the afternoon and evening events.
The class will leave school at around 13:45 and go to the Belgrade Theatre to watch Annie (14:30 start). After the performance has finished, we will take the class to McDonald’s at the Alivs Retail Park for dinner. School will provide a Happy Meal for each child, but if the children wish to bring a snack to have with their meal then they should do so. We will then take the children from Mc Donald’s to St Patrick’s Church which starts at 18:30.
Please make arrangements for your child to be collected from St Patrick’s Church, Deedmore Road, CV2 1EH at 20:00.
Netball/Football Rally
As you may be aware, Coventry Catholic Schools’ Netball and Football Rally will also take place on Thursday 24th May at the Excel Centre. If you child has been selected to represent the school then unfortunately they will not be able to attend the performance of Annie at the Belgrade Theatre. The Rally is an important event in the school’s sporting calendar and we are grateful for the commitment of the children who are representing the school.
The Rally will finish at approximately 15:00. Arrangements will be made for these children to be brought back to school and then taken to meet the rest of the class at Mc Donald’s at the Alivs Retail Park at 17:00 so they can go to the Vocations Mass from there.
If your child is unable to attend the Vocations Mass, please inform us and arrange for them to be collected from the Belgrade Theatre at 16:30.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to speak to me or contact Mrs Cannon in the school office.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Mr Marsh
Well done to Year 6 for successfully completing a tough week of SATs tests. They have worked tremendously hard and shown a great deal of maturity this week. The whole class should be very proud.
I also want to thank all of the staff at school for their support throughout the week as well as in the build-up to this week. Everyone has gone out of their way to help in any way they can, including giving up their own time to support the children. It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and well done to you all!!

Year 6 SATs
As you may be aware, Year 6 will be taking their SATs next week (14th – 17th May). Year 6 children should arrive at school at normal time (8:30) each day. On Monday and Wednesday, when no clubs will be taking place in the morning, children are welcome to enter through the hall where Mr Cooke/Mrs Quinn and I will greet them. On Tuesday and Thursday, when clubs will be taking place in the hall, children should enter school as normal and meet in the dining hall.
We will provide some toast and squash for the children to ensure they are fuelled up and ready to focus on each test. All tests will take place in the morning and be completed before lunchtime. The tests will be completed in the following order:
- Monday 14th May – English grammar, punctuation and spelling papers 1 and 2
- Tuesday 15th May – English reading comprehension
- Wednesday 16th May – Mathematics papers 1 (arithmetic) and 2 (reasoning)
- Thursday 17th May – Mathematics paper 3 (reasoning)
Throughout the week, we will use the afternoons to both relax as well as prepare for the test that is coming up the follow day.
It is a legal requirement for all children to sit their SATs tests. If your child is ill during the week, please contact us as early as possible so that arrangement can be made.
As I have assured the children on many occasions, SATs are nothing to worry about and are an opportunity for them to show how much they have learned during their time in KS2. They should be seen as a challenge and an opportunity and I have every confidence in each and every child. With this in mind, no homework has been set this weekend as I feel it would be more beneficial for children to have a break and arrive at school on Monday feeling refreshed. However, if children would like to do some additional preparation then practising spellings and times tables, reading aloud or working through any additional practise materials will help them.
If you have any queries throughout the week, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Many thanks,
Mr Marsh
Unfortunately there will be no Tri-Golf on 10th or 24th May.
It will be on as normal on 17th May and will continue after half-term.
Thanks,
Mr Marsh
Congratulations to all the Year children on their Confirmation this weekend. The service was excellent and many parishioners commented on how well the children did and how grown up they appeared. To use a quote from one particular parishioner, who is actively involved in the activities of the church: ‘the year group is a real credit to the school.’
I’d also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the children throughout the process as well as everyone who helped to mark the occasion with this weekend.

Year 6 continued their local heritage study at the War Memorial Park today. They attended the ‘Tale of Two Soldiers’ session, based on two local soldiers who fought in World War 1. The children broadened their knowledge of WW1 and WW2, as well as learning about the impact that it had on the local area. After the session, the children had the chance to go inside the cenotaph and
explore some more of the memorials within the park, learning about who they were dedicated to.
Year 6 will be taking their Confirmation on Sunday 29th April at 11:15. Please ensure that the children arrive at church no later than 11:00 so they have time to show their sponsor to their seat and then meet in the Parish Room at 11:05.
During the service, the sponsor will go onto the altar with the child they are sponsoring and place their hand on the right shoulder of the child.
There are no specific requirements regarding what the children need to wear for the service, however, please ensure they are dressed smartly to help mark the significance of the occasion.
As always, everyone is welcome in the Parish Room after mass for refreshments and if the weather is favourable then it may be nice for the children have some photos taken in the Peace Garden.
We are looking forward to seeing you there to help us all celebrate.
Kind regards,
Mr Marsh
Year 6 had a great day at the Herbert Art Gallery today. They were learning about ‘Coventry at War’ as well as looking through the Coventry Archives in order to learn more about the War Memorial Park for local heritage study.
