Fee Fi Fo Fum!

By Sarah Scofield5th March 2021

Hello Everyone,

This week we have been doing activities based on Jack on the Beanstalk, which we will also continue  next week. We have started off simply this week by starting to grow cress seeds and next week we will be planting beans and also potting some flowers for a special Sunday that is coming up soon! On Thursday the children loved dressing up for World Book Day – they all looked wonderful. Lots of stories were read and we also decorated eggs as book characters. Have a good weekend!

Spring is coming!

How can we make these feathers move?

What would you wear on a sunny day?

Making sun catchers to hang up at the window

Hello Everyone,

Well we have certainly been making the most of the mild and sunny weather in Nursery this week, so we have been having lots of fun outdoors. This week we have been thinking about different weather – some of the activies we have been doing are making sun catchers, dancing with streamers in the wind and trying to make feathers move without touching them, using paper and different kinds of fans. Next week we will be starting our topic on growing and planting and on Thursday it is World Book Day, so don’t forget the children can dress up as a favourite book character or wear their pyjamas. On Wednesday we will also be decorating hard boiled eggs as book characters. Our phoneme for next week is ‘O’. Have a good week everyone and enjoy the sunshine.

5.2.21

By Sarah Scofield5th February 2021

Hello Everyone,

This week we have been very excited to have some new guests to look after in Nursery  – our school guinea-pigs, Bill and Ben. The children have been very keen to handle them and help to feed them ( I think they may be less keen to clean them out!). Our story focus this week has been ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ so we have heard many a call of ” Who’s that trip, trapping over my bridge?” We have been introduced to a new site called ‘Cosmic Kids’ yoga for children, which incorporates yoga moves through story telling – the children loved it today so we will definitely be making a feature of it each week. Next week our story focus will be ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, our phoneme of the week will be ‘d’ and we will be learning about squares. You are all very good at sending the children to school in appropriate clothing so just a reminder that it is going to be very cold on Monday ,so hats, scarves and wellies at the ready! Finally, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Caellagh, who was Four years old on Monday! Have a good weekend.

Welcome Back!

By Sarah Scofield29th January 2021

Hello Everyone and welcome back to Nursery!

What a lovely week we have had in Nursery – it has been so nice to see all of the children again. We had great fun in the snow on Monday and thank you so much for making sure your children were wrapped up warm and wearing appropriate clothing – more snow is due at the weekend, so be warned! Our story focus this week has been ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ which we also linked in with our work on size in Mathematics. The children have also been doing activities focussed on triangles. Next week our phoneme of the week is ‘m’, our shape focus is circles and our story focus is ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. If anyone is having a clear out and you have any spare dolls clothes or dolls we would really appreciate them coming our way in Nursery. Have a good weekend everyone.

Merry Christmas

By Sarah Scofield18th December 2020

Hello Everyone,

Well we’ve made it to the end of the first term and we are really proud of  our Nursery children. They have had a very busy week, performing in our Nativity, making Christmas cakes and decorations and of course partying and meeting Santa and Olaf. Thank you for all of your support, kind words, gifts and cards. Have a peaceful and restful time with your family at Christmas (if that’s possible with young children!) and here’s to a happy and healthy 2021! (I will add photos of the children with Santa at a later date.)

Rockin Around the Christmas Tree!

By Sarah Scofield11th December 2020

Hello Everyone,
I’m sure you’ve all seen our fabulous Christmas dancers on the website and we hope the children brought a big smile to your faces – well done children! We have had more festive cheer today – the children looked wonderful in their Christmas jumpers for Christmas Jumper Day. This week the children have also made snowflake Christmas cards which are being sent to Charnwood House (who specialise in dementia). This has helped us to talk about what we can do to help others during Advent and what kind deeds we can do. The children have also enjoyed dressing up and role playing The Nativity so look out for more videos next week. Next Friday is our last day so the children can come to Nursery in their party gear and we are going to have hot chocolate and cookies with Santa followed by games and dancing. It is Christmas dinner on Wednesday so the children can also come to school dressed in their festive outfits on this day too. Have a great weekend!

Advent Activities

By Sarah Scofield4th December 2020

Hello Everyone,

We have had a busy week focussing on Advent and talking about how we are getting ready for Jesus’s birthday. The children helped to make our class Advent wreath on Monday and we talked about the meaning of the circle shape, the use of evergreen leaves and the candles. We then had a lovely prayer service and lit our first Advent candle. Everyday we have been opening our Advent calendar and taking turns to see what is in our chocolate Advent calendar which they have been very eager to do! On Wednesday we gathered with Reception class for a prayer service via zoom with Father Paul which the children really responded well to. We have also made purple Advent candles this week and have had great fun exploring with torches. Next week we will continue with the festive activities, role play the Nativity and perform our Christmas dance which will be filmed and put onto the website. Could the children please come to Nursery on Tuesday wearing their party clothes/ Christmas jumpers  for our Christmas dance. Next Friday is also Christmas jumper day. Our birthday girl this week is Cara who was four on Tuesday – Happy Birthday Cara! Have a great weekend!

Magic Magnets

By Sarah Scofield27th November 2020

Hello Everyone,

The children have had great fun this week exploring with magnets and finding out which materials stick to them – they have also loved doing tricks with them by making magets attach to other magnets without touching them. We have also been thinking about different forms of transport with wheels which led onto a big discussion about whether aeroplanes, rockets, hellicopters and hot air balloons have wheels – we found some amazing videos on youtube, particularly of rockets and hot air balloons taking off and landing. To encourage the children to do more mark making and writing we give the children a writing challenge every week. Last week the children had a go at writing shopping lists and this week they had a go at writing class registers ( what they produce may look like squiggles and lines to you, but to them they have written everyone’s name!). Next week our letter of the week is ‘i’. On Wednesday Nursery will be having a short prayer service and chat with Father Paul via Zoom which we are looking forward to. In P.E the children have been practicing a Christmas dance which we are going to video and put on our website so we would like the children to come into Nursery on this day dressed in their special party clothes or Christmas jumpers – I will put a reminder on our easel outside the Nursery entrance, nearer the time. Have a good weekend and stay warm!

Odd Socks

By Sarah Scofield20th November 2020

Hello Everyone,

We had good fun today looking at all the wonderful combinations of odd socks the children were wearing which led to great discussions about the meanings of ‘odd’, ‘different’, ‘the same’ and ‘matching’. This week we have also been thinking about different materials and what things are made of, so we have been sorting and describing objects and exploring if they sink or float. To tie in with our Nursery rhyme, ‘London Bridge is Falling Down’ we have also been building bridges with different materials which was a great problem solving activity. Next week our phoneme is ‘p’ and we will also be exploring magnets and metal objects. Have a good weekend everyone and stay warm!

Hello Everyone,

What a busy week we’ve had in Nursery! On Tuesday the children had an amazing time in P.E when they went on a pirate adventure – they were so involved and had great fun with their teacher, Chez. Wednesday was Remembrance Day and the other teachers in school were very impressed with the way Nursery children stood in silence for two minutes – we were the best in the school! The children made beautiful poppies using different materials and I’m sure you couldn’t miss the giant poppy badges they made to wear on their jumpers. On Thursday we learnt about Diwali and we made Rangoli patterns with coloured pasta, Mandalas in the playdough and mendhi patterns using lentils and sequins. The children looked wonderful on Friday for Children in Need day and we continued the theme of looking at different shapes and patterns that we had talked about in the week. Of course the best part of the day was decorating and then eating spotty biscuits at snack time! The children were very impressed with how we could make a rainbow using Skittles, a plate and a cup of warm water – we had some great predictions about what would happen when we poured the water onto the plate. Next week out letter sound we are focussing on in phonics is ‘t’ and we will be looking at different materials made out of wood, plastic, metal and glass.
