Advent Day!

Year One were very excited to take part in our Advent Day on Friday. They came into the classroom to discover that all of the cloths that were once green were now purple ready for advent. We looked at the advent wreath and then had a go at making out own (with the help of the very talented Mrs Fox).

The children created a beautiful wreath for our classroom and knew why we have a circle wreath to show God’s never-ending love for us. We then created our own advent wreaths in our books to help us count down the weeks until Christmas.

Some very exciting weeks lie ahead, and it was lovely to reflect on the true meaning of this most special season.

A busy week for Year One!

WOW! What an exciting week we had together in Year One. We played in the autumn leaves outside and what beautiful smiles it brought to our class.

We used our ingredient list that we had made as part of our English instructional writing to create a shopping list and took to the aisles of Morrisons to find the ingredients we needed to make our chocolate cupcakes. The children behaved exceptionally well and many members of the public came to comment on how wonderful and polite they were. As a treat for our behaviour, we got some delicious doughnuts to enjoy when we got back to school.

We ended the week by getting dotty for Pudsey and supporting children in need. Our final task to celebrate our writing was to actually make the cupcakes and what an amazing job they did! Okay… we may have ended up with more flour on our carpets (sorry Mr Barrett) than in our bowls but through working in our house groups we managed to bake some beautiful chocolate cupcakes following our instructions.

This week the children have a trip out to the cinema to see Paw Patrol the Movie as part of the Into film festival. We will provide the children with a snack and drink. We will leave after the children have eaten their lunch and hope to be back by 3.15 but 3.30 at the latest.

As part of our D&T project we are asking that the children bring in one empty plastic bottle with them by Thursday, it can be any size or shape. If you have more than one please free to send extras in too, these will be gratefully received and used

Poppy Appeal 2021

The Poppy Appeal has started once more and we at All Souls’ are supporting the Royal British legion in raising funds for the Armed Forces.

The poppies, wrist bands, snap bands, key rings and zip tags will all be on sale from Tuesday 2nd November 2021 in the school hall at lunch times.

Our school council are running the stall and have given each year group a specific day to purchase their poppy items to commemorate those that have fought for our country.

Items start from 50p up to £2.00

Intercultural Mass

We were honoured to be invited to the Intercultural Mass at Saint Osburgs. We thank Alicia for her commitment and service to our Chaplaincy team and representing the school so respectfully.

Go Green for CAFOD!

On Friday 1st October 2021 we will be supporting the CAFOD family fast day.
We are asking the children to come in any green clothes they have, fancy dress welcomed, to show our support for the CAFOD appeal.
World leaders are meeting in Glasgow this November for a crucial meeting about the climate crisis and the future of our planet and its people. The Go Green appeal encourages Catholic schools around England and Wales to unite and fundraise to support communities around the world who are protecting the planet.

We are asking for a donation of non-perishable food for our local food bank and a donation to the CAFOD appeal (a suggested donation of £1 per family).

The Coventry food bank urgently need:
-biscuits
-chocolate
-UHT long life milk
-packets of mash
-snacks e.g. cereal bars and crisps
-tinned fruit
-tinned potatoes
-coffee

A very special trip

We were delighted to celebrate our first mass of the year! We were able to share in our mass with Year 2 and Year 3 who were just as excited to be there as we were.

We can’t wait to celebrate more masses with our parish community.

A lovely treat to start the week!

The whole school were treated to ice-lollies today to keep them cool as the temperatures soar.  It is lovely to see year groups back together and enjoying playtimes in the sun.

FAO – YEAR ONE parents

Our class (year 1) saint is Saint Paul and tomorrow is his feast day.  As we are celebrating his sainthood, the children are free to come in in non-uniform.

We will be having different activities throughout the day, learning all about why he was made a saint and a celebration wouldn’t be complete without some treats too.

Year One Class Mass

What a wonderful way to begin our last half term together! Year One were very lucky to have their class mass this morning and my goodness were we excited! The children were an asset to the school and participated in the mass respectfully throughout.

Even though we were a little out of practise, the children tried their very best to join in and when they were not sure they gave it a go anyway. It was so lovely to gather together with a few members of our parish and Father Paul to celebrate mass and we cannot wait to come back soon!

With huge thanks to Father Paul, Deacon Paul and all the stewards who welcomed us back.

Happy Easter!

Sending huge Easter blessings from all of the staff here at All Souls to each and every family. It is easy to become swept up in the eggs, chocolate, hunts and material side of Easter but let us remember that this season brings much more. As we enter Eastertide, let us be filled with hope of the resurrection of Jesus.

May we remember that in the darkest of times, light will overwhelm and endure. We have had dark times, times when it was easy to lose our way and get caught up in the darkness and gloom that has arisen over the last year but may we, like Jesus, rise up to be strong in faith, have trust in God and spread love to one other.

So as we celebrate this most wondrous event let us remember that ‘Love is stronger than hate. Hope is stronger than despair. Life is stronger than death. And nothing is impossible with God.’
